Maybe the people who have built their B18's would comment here? New oem parts, pistons, cams, ecu, tune, labour, total cost & what power they are running now..

I dont think Stevie9er got much change from 6k and IIRC ljwhiteman spent something like 6.5k on his engine build.

Neither of whichs cars make more power than Alex's K20 :p (stevie9ers was done on the same dyno)

another intresting comparison 9ers car and another boy i know made the same power, his is JDM K20 with Skunk2 stage2 cams, a crap exhaust, crap intake and rubbish inlet manifold. The K20 also made more torqz.

My mate adams B22 was also rather costly like the above and again made K figures but with better torque, again iirc, his car is a monster haha.

I just cannot agree with that, both if done in a budget would work out b18 4500 k20 6500minus 1500-2000 that you'll get back for your B18C, makes4500-5000, IMO of course
Fixed it for you :D So many people forget to substract their B18 sale when calculating costs for a K20 swap...

Fair shout, does make it sound much more appealing price wise!

Actually that is another valid point ^^

If you blow up your standard K20 its like 1000 to replace(if that) blow up your fully built bseries and you are talking a good few thousand to rebuild.

People also apart from a few, Haitch is one, seem to leave the gearbox standard which doesnt really happen with bseries builds, the 6 speed can have all kinds of gearsets and final drives,
imagine this in an EK9 lol

also haha you are also only talking like 1500ish for a JRSC giving you upto 300bhp and 200lfs ft

Have been saving to buy a K20 or B20.
But im staying B18C for now, Might just build a short box and spend a load on my chassis and tyres. Was going to take which ever came up first at a decent price but then out of the "blue" something came up i couldn't pass on. Will make a thread on it if you want to see. :drive: Wont be everybodys cup of tea but was well worth it. :))

I guess it depends what you wanted from your car.

K20 into b-series chassis would be considered sacrilege by some of best Japanese Honda tuners ;)

However in most cases the American's are all over it.

Anybody starting a proper build will know that costs can soon escalate. I had my K20 engine & box pulled apart, fully checked over, new oem parts everywhere I could for reliability & total piece of mind, costs of the refreshment parts, upgrades, additions, labour, ecu & tune, maybe a change of mind here and there, a call from the tuner..maybe we should look at...
what i have spent so far on my new build still along way to go

Brian crower stage 2 turbo cams
Brian Crower Valves, retainers, dual springs
Brian Crower cam gears

all came to 870 quid and thats not including import tax

Eagle rods
wiseco pistons
darton sleeves
acl main, rod and thrust bearings
arp head studds

all came to 1200 quid and as above not including import tax

Thats over 2k so far

still got to get,

new turbo
timing belt injectors
throttle bodie
fuel set up
intercooler
etc etc......

as you can see none of it is cheap wether your going k20 or fully built b

for what it cost here in the states to swap a K the right way,i prefer to save my money and buy a house.once that money is spent, you probably won't see much of it back if and when you decide to sell.eventually house market will go up and i can make some money.cant say the same for the K-swap.then again, thats just me.

2 of my good chums ijwhiteman and matt o have both recently gone through b18 builds. Ian's was the high budget option which gave him 230ish bhp and the flywheel. Matt went doen the route of building a true 1.8 on a budget and i think he has 200 at the fly. As for costs and intricate details look at there build up threads or i am sure at some point they may both read this post. :nice:

its a valid point if some what off topic.

if its an investment you're after then modern-ish Honda's aren't really the thing.

i recently built a b18cr EG, however after going out in my mates k20 DC2 on the weekend (254 bhp) i kinda wish i went k20! The torque at low revs means the vtec can kick in at 3500 rpm. The grunt and throttle response its got is fantastic and reminds me of a big american muscle car. But now that iv got the b18c i might aswell just B20 it in the future.

If you have the funds K20 it, definitely worth while but make sure you make the most of the bolt ons and get the racing header for it.
