Just starting some chat here, and I may be in this position soon so want some ideas lol

So you have a completely stock ek9 and you have 2k to spend onit,
Main focus is lowering lap times. I want to get round brands under a min consistently. (In s2k I'm 1min consistent.)
Car will be my only car but used more on track than on road. I work less than a mile away from home.
Can be used or new parts, but used have to be usually priced, no k20's for a 5er.
This 2k doesn't include tyres as I already have some a048's but can include new wheels.
Free things like weight loss can be added aswell, do less than 2000 road miles a year even with nurburgring trip it's about 2500
So fire your best ideas at me.
Should add all the work would be carried out by myself, no labour charges.

Decent suspension and geometry set up properly.

better brakes, disc's and pads minimum. depending on wheels choice, ep/atr/dc5 upgrade

Should have said need to be 15"wheels, as that's the size a048 I have lol
Any particular brand of suspension you'd have?

Suspension and camber arms
Full alignment set up
Up rates brakes
R888 tyres

That's would be my choice.

^so basically spend the max I can on these components and enjoy? No plate LSD?
Ted beat me too it lol

Im in the same situation. Except my car has a 1.5 way cusco lsd and racing gear coil overs. Im thinking r888s. And geometry

The coilovers and the diff puts me over budget straight away.

I would finish building my b20 high comp build Id get some big cams n have the head done :D

What time does it do round Brands now? Pads will make the biggest difference for relatively little outlay.

B18c. Money left over on brakes. Keep the b16 s4c box for the shorter ratios then money off sale of the b16 on suspension.

hey you sold the s2k i take it then?

hmmmmm 2k, im no expert on ek9s but heres what id go for

a full service
toyo r888
brake upgrade
body braces
intake
exhaust
decat

cant really think of anything else really, i feel honda got it right from factory

No chassis mods? You think it would be faster with just the gear set and diff?

With out a doubt. They r a cracker handling car as standard. you could spend as much as you like. I run bc coilovers and ther good value. My biggest problem was being in between gears. So a gearset and coilovers would be good too! Jes it would be a hard decision alright.

Forget power, you dont need it. A gearset may gain you a couple of seconds a lap at brands, but to get a gearset/uprated diff together, along with bearings & other bits and bobs (+any surprises when you open up the box) it would destroy the budget and not benefit you as much as suspension and brakes. Better to wait until something actually breaks/needs replacing in the box, see what budget you have at the time and do it all in one hit, saves wasting money on opening up the box, labour etc. You may be best off with a good helical one way, a plate diff is not for everybody and often not always needed for the usage.

Spend the budget on suspension and brakes, a decent disc/pad combo, R01 & plain disc for example, spend the majority on the suspension.

Dunx did have some Zeal coilovers for decent money recently, although personally I would always look to buy suspension new, knowing the history of used coilovers is essential, and what make they are, its almost impossible to get the fancy foreign stuff rebuilt if it goes & you will be out of pocket.

Not to forget a proper harness & bucket seat, if you do not already have them, not that expensive and makes a real difference.

Im with Haitch on this, forget about power!;)

If you can do/build gearbox's yourself then i would go for a 3,4 & 5th gearset & stick with the oem diff.
Next would be brakes (bremtec discs & DS2500 pads all round) + some decent fluid & braded lines.
Then i would look towards some coilovers, but only if you have enough pennys left to get something "DECENT", if not i would use the rest on track time & tuition at brands.

Should see you get under a min :drive:

As above definately track time and tuition will get you the best times if this is what you are chasing, in an ideal world you would fit a decent harness, bucket seat, uprate the brakes, leave the rest alone and spend it all on track time and tuition. People dont usually do this though :D
