hey guys.... well ive been saving up for the last 2 years for a 9 now and i was just wondering how/if i could get insured on it? i was thinking of going down the route of buying a **** heap like a 1 litre corsa and getting insured on that on my own cover.... then registering my ek9 in my dads name and get him insured on it and then i should be insured to drive it ???!!!
* i ave a full licence
* nd iv got almost a years ncb on my dads cover

is this the best way to get insurance or does anyone know any better???
all coments welcome... thanks!

At 17 i cannot see you being able to get insured by no means. Best thing to do is try i guess. Call up a few insurers and see what they say.

yeah supos... but if im fully insured(tpft) on a car and my dad is insured on my ek9...am i insured to drive the ek9?? soz for all the confusing questions..

It all depends on the insurance company man, I think Quinn insure you third party on all other cars.

tea you could do that i know people who have done it..even a few on here..
but dont think they are 17...

Full lience at 17?? Ya didnt wait around anyway to do the test.. Yea I think you are legally insured but in the case of an iccident when the insurance might get involved the might bring it up

well i would not like to be in a bad accident insured like that especially at 17

If you're insured TPFT on a car then you won't be able to drive other cars TPFT automatically. Most insurers don't offer that option to young drivers even if they are insured comprehensivley and in the event of a crash you'd only be insured TPFT which means you'd have to pay for the EK9 repairs out of your own pocket.

There's a good reason why you can't get insured on an EK9 at 17, drive your Corsa and wait until you can insure it the right way.

youll be insured as in you will have a disc in the window and a story for the cops.if you have an accident though,i can see it getting complicated.best to ask for a list of cars you can and cant drive perhaps?

a better option is ask your dad to get a trade policy and stick you on it if possible.

im just gone 18 but ive been drivin my ek4 since i was 17..

the way i insured it is through quinn's open insurance policy..

i've insured an 800cc matiz with me and the girlfriend on the policy for 1300..

that allowed me to drive the sir as long as it wasn't in my name and i had a full licence.. so basically the girlfriend gets the matiz and i get the sir for 1300 between the 2 of us for the year..

i've been stopped by the guards a few times and once you keep a copy of your insurance and the open insurance policy in the car it keeps the guards off your back..

altho im still unsure if the insurance will pay out if i have an accident so just be careful of that.. im sure theyd find a way outta payin..

plenty of lads down here use that to insure things at a young age..

hopefully ive helped ya out a bit

i got a quote on a 9 recently for 4000 fully comp at 20 wit 1 years ncb and a year driving experience on my ma car. if u insure it as a 1.4i youll get de disc but wont be covered in de event of a crash

you'd be better learning in a less powerfull car for a couple of years, then think about getting an ek9 when you've actually learnt how to drive, it's people like you who put ek9 insurance premiums up, and people wonder why it's so dear to insure ek9's in ireland..... lol

good point there, thats why i still have my SIR:nice:

quinn did but i did it online again den to day and it said sorry your request cannot be processed at dis time. de onlne ting is fairly random loada bollix like

dont no if you would be covered to drive the 9 if ya get your da to insure it , u could be ?? best of ringin an askin, no point in drivin round wondering if ya have a crash are ya screwed ,,, no way ya would insure it at 17 anyways , im 23 with 5 year no claims an i even found it tricky ,,,,,,,,,,,,

Insurance companies have covered just about every possible scenario for people trying to get insured on cars much more powerful than they can handle.

Iv tried this trick before but found all the insurance companies refused to cover under 25's to drive other cars.

As said before, be patient, it may save your life.
