Hey guys,
We've been busy setting up our US branch and in the process, I somehow found myself in another car.
I remember the first time I saw a car like this. It was the summer of 1987 and I was at my grandma's house.
My dad and I pulled up and saw his brother washing his then new car. A bright red Corolla GTS hatchback.
At the time it was probably the closest I've ever been to a new car and the fact that it was red - I associated with the only other red cars I knew of which were Ferraris.
Fast forward some 13 yrs and my friend's younger brother was sporting an AE86. My childhood fondness of the car was somewhat diminished because it was a two tone metallic grey/black combo - not to mention it was speckled with rust.
Still, I could see how the car had potential due to Hot Version/Best Motoring videos. It wasn't until I had a chance to drive the car did I understand - that despite not having any power (by modern standards) the car was exceptionally nimble and fun.
I vowed then, that one day I would have one of my own.
23 years after I first saw my uncle's car, I found what it is I was looking for and jumped on the opportunity.
I picked up my 86 about a month ago from Kentucky and had her shipped all the way to Utah where my shop is located. I originally had plans to shuttle her all the way up to the pacwest - back to Vancouver BC, but I simply do not have any space for it at home.
Some pix:
The very first pic I took of her after she arrived and was unloaded off the hauler.
Bath + Shower the next day!
Requisite Engine bay shot
Sample of some of the stitches
No intro necessary....
First time on our hoist
Put the lip back on ... albeit with zipties and not trick custom bracket work like Tsuchiya did on his :arf:
Whoops! Gassed up a bit too much...
Thanks for the space!
