Who's been scammed from a classified ad on here and been left out of pocket?

I read so much about it on various discussions, wondering if it's a genuine issue or more a case of people being overly cautious.

I've bought and sold loads of parts from various car forums, never had any problems.

No, i'm not wanting to start a discussion about the 250 posts. Just wondering if scamming is a real concern or not.

haha it will get related back to it, somehow. There have been a few scams that have happened before, hence why people seem a bit cautious (rightly so). i haven't been scammed on here but kinda have been on a different forum, but I do remember a group buy a few years ago when folk got done here. **** does happen. And it will happen when scammers find the opportunity.

It's just i've spent thousands of pounds and probably made an easy 100+ transactions over the years and not been done once, either as a buyer or a seller.

but this isn't about you. the forum is accessed and shared publicly. just because you didn't get scammed it doesn't mean someone else won't.

You're basically gloating the fact that you made sales without reaching the magic 250. Well good on you. It's just lucky that the usual mods/ admins here aren't as active as anyone would like them to be. I think this is just another pointless thread and filled with so much stupiditiy.

Back on subject: is scamming a real concern? **** yes it is! and there is nothing else to it! How would you have liked your hard earned money taken away from you just like that.

I recall you receiving abuse on civic life (a forum which I detest at the very least) for the same reasons on here, and rightly so.

Please just stop, or just get banned or something. you signed up to a forum with rules set, which you ACCEPTED when signing up. If you don't like the rules then piss off somewhere else, simples. and this is me being nice.

oh how I'd love to be admin for a day to give this place a make over.

I don't think you understand, i've not been gloating about making sales on here, in my last comment I am referring to my trading's on other car forums, all of which don't even have a minimum post count.

Your a bit out of order having a go at me, I can see why your not a mod, you can't read and digest things properly before going off on one. #trigger happy

I made this thread simply to understand if people really are getting scammed on here or if it's a case of people scaremongering. This has no relation to the 250 posts, try to understand that.

Only reason I ask is because I read so much scam talk on here but never actually see anyone saying they got scammed. Seems like everyone is on edge for no reason.

I told myself I wouldn't get pulled into this stuff, but just can't resist. Sorry to bring up old things:
@Escy, I think a huge reason for they way things are right now is because of this http://www.ek9.org/forum/general-chat/49034-weaveworx-refund-thread.html
A lot of people got burned (unintentional or not, they did) and around this time the for sale rules changed along with the want to buy rules (whether it was because of this or not, I don't know). It didn't happen that long ago and a lot of people still haven't been paid back so it's still a fresh wound for those involved.

I believe that people are just trying to avoid another incident like this or something similar. Again, a lot of people got burned!

Mate you've only been here since August 2012, but maybe lurked before registering I don't know. But **** like this does happen. As said weaveworx was hell of a case but the guy was genuine and refunded. And before that, when before I registered there was a group scam that happened I'm sure (if someone could recall the time). And I can tell you people will definitely be cautious since then because I know I would.

And I still get the feeling you are gloating the fact that you made sales regardless what forum because you said you had no problem, even on your other thread. Yes scamming is a concern. Oh and vote me for admin :/

I've been on Honda forums for years and touch wood never had a problem buying and looked after anyone who's brought from me.

I keep an eye on people's post count when buying.

Lol ally, if you were mod half of the forum would end up banned! :p

And i don't blame him having a go at you. First thing that pops into my mind when i read all this, its like your rubbing it in peoples faces you haven't been done.. It might not what you mean but as i said, its what springs to mind at first..

Imagine paying £500 for a seibon bonnet or tailgate and to never receive the part, tell me if that would concern you or not. If you are rich then you probably couldnt give a toss but when your like me and don't earn much, its a different story :/

I've been scammed on another forum without the 250 post count.

Guy was breaking a teg and I bought a shiny radiator off him. Turns out he'd taken the pics off someone's build, contacted PayPal and got my monies back.

Looks to me that this is another 'I'll open a can of worms topic to get me to 250 posts' scheme.
Yes I'm overly cautious because I don't want a decent forum to go down the pan with spam threads popping up and scammers finding a way round the rules.
People slate Civiclife off because of the mods, it's one of the few forums that scamming rarely happens.

That's the thing, if you pay by Paypal your really well covered as a buyer. Doesn't really count as a scam if you got your money back.

Thats great pal, good for you. But you could of easily made that up... You say your not gloating about it, even though you just did? Rofl.

Im still out of pocket from a deal like a year ago+. Its their for a reason..

Covered for what 45 days? paypal are useless bastards anyhow even when you dispute..

you're missing the point here. covered or not. this is a community, we just don't tolerate that kind of stuff here at all.

And yes PayPal are a bunch of arseholes.

I bet 95% of this forum could say the same thing.
