That's the thing, if you pay by Paypal your really well covered as a buyer. Doesn't really count as a scam if you got your money back.

It's 50/50 what way PayPal goes, worked out well for me as others had a claim in against him.

It was still a scam regardless if I got my money back.

Could someone please reset Escy's post count to zero.

Why is that? Have a look through my posts. I'm not spamming the place, have been here a while now, sometimes go weeks between posts. It's not like i'm desperately trying to make 250 posts.

I find it sad/intriguing why the Honda community is so "scam, scam, scam", yet all the other (dare I say more mature car forums) I go on like Alfa Owner, Passionford, SXOC, AE111 Owners, IMOC, Pistonheads, etc don't really have the same issues.

I find Paypal is heavily weighted towards the buyer. I once sold something on ebay, posted it out recorded, it gets lost in the post. I think i'm covered because I have proof of postage. Buyer gets a refund and i'm out of pocket.

The fact everyone has scamming in the front of their mind is a good thing, better to fear something that potentially won't happen, than to be at ease and be caught of guard :nice:
It helps this forum to reduce the scammers. Like many have said if people want to scam they will scam, but the more we can do to reduce it the better. people being vigilant about it and helping each other out is a great way of helping out.

Just curious why more people on here don't just drive and meet to pick up parts from private sellers? I understand it not really being feasible for people on the main land to Ireland or Northern Scotland to Southern England, but you can get across this country in 6 hours. Make a day of it. See something you've never seen before. To me, that makes meeting half way very easy. Also, it would build on the 'community' that so many people bring up. I know when I sell items I'm usually willing to drive about 2 hours in any direction to meet. Beyond that I usually ask the buyer to chip in on my gas. This would also cut down on scams.

Is it the cost of petrol that turns people off of this? Robbed? Why not emphasize boot sales at the Forum Meets? Just something else to think about.

I;ve driven the parts to the Buyer many times before and met buyers half way before also.

Meeting at car shows is normally a popular way to buy and sell with other forum members.

Say you want to buy an ECU for £150, if the bloke is 6 hours away you've probably done another £100 in fuel. It's hard to justify it when it could be posted for £10. Plus it's the time taken to collect.

Maybe because those so called 'mature' forums don't have immature members making useless posts ? If you think pistonheads is without scams think again !

Regardless if the buyer asks for it, I make sure the parcel is fully insured in case the item is lost and I need to claim from the courier.

The boot sale has been tried at a few facebook meets before. I usually try to meet buyers/sellers where possible. if they offer free postage it's usually a lot easier.

Was nearly conned in another forum. Trusted and listed trader sold me a forged engine, I open the engine to check and its a stock one.
PayPal saved me in the end.

If it was close enough I'd rather go buy an item,
saves all the 'you didn't describe it like this bullshi*'

And you also don't get scammed.
If it is a crazy distance it's just a risk you gotta take and have faith that there are honest people out there.

Carbon spoilers was the first major scam on this forum by him520msport, all of the carbon spoilers turned up with some damage although most didn't turn up at all.

Luckily I had bought a Seibon one a week before and my brother actually got one of the few carbon spoilers which were sent (though damaged).

PayPal was worse than useless.

That's not gonna do anything, he'll still manage to make sales cause he's that good!

So it's apparently immature to be cautious of scammers, better let myself be scammed cause I ain't immature

Ill stick my hand up. Have been messed about a few time. Its not just about being out of pocket. Getting Dicked about buy people who take 2 months to post an Item, lieing about item condition, bullshiting about lost in the post, Not able to give tracking numbers, receiving broken parts or even totally wrong parts you hadn't asked for then the seller refusing to own up to any of it. Its all bad for the forum.

What planet are you on? This is a world wide forum. I for one live on the Isle of man. So you expect me to just jump on a boat and drive through england, Irland or Europe to check somthing out before buying???

You obviously didn't read the whole post. Go back, read it again, and then you can pull your head out your ass and use your common sense.

Not up my ass at all.!

Don't know about you but doubt may people would pay for your petrol money so that they can sell you something. Defeats the whole point of selling something to get money in the first place. Regardless of you being in a different country to start with.

If you want to buy something then you pay for the postage or for the petrol to pick it up. The whole point is if we keep the community of the forum safe then there would be no need for so much caution just to buy some spare parts.

Think you should look that "Common Sense" you mention, up in the dictionary.

:blabla:
Good one buddy. Obviously you aren't reading what I'm posting as your arguing one line and not reading the next or the next line and need reading the first. I'll make it simple for you this time by showing you what I wrote:
I know when I sell items I'm usually willing to drive about 2 hours in any direction to meet. Beyond that I usually ask the buyer to chip in on my gas. This would also cut down on scams.
I'll type it again because obviously you don't get it. If I sell something I'm more than willing to drive to the person if it's within 2 hours. If it's further, I ask the buyer to help pitch in on gas. What's the difference between that and them paying 10-20 pounds for postage? There is no difference other than I'm not a greedy lazy bastard.

You don't have to like the idea of doing face to face transactions but after you previously said that you've been ripped off and dicked around you can't really bitch about this. If your that concerned about scammers here's a quote for you "Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me."

Your insignia says Argumentative but it should just say thick.

I went to a 24 hour Mcdonalds after a night out once, ordered a McChicken Sandwhich meal (large) with Fanta obviously and extra salt on the chips to help block my arteries easing death. Well finally stumbled out the taxi and fought my way to my front door, battled with the drunken key acceptor and won my way into the house, to get comftorable and to only find out that not only had the overnight mcnugget employee gave me no salt, my McChicken Sandwhich had lettuce and Mayonaise no defrosted deep fried processed chicken! Guess what i couldnt even put up a dispute because i never used paypal.

Aye, so **** happens, you just deal with it. My new year wish is your post counts gets reset :D
