Glanza 1.3 turbos?

image20.jpg

dam grey plastic inside ruin's them for me! However with a few mods and an uprated turbo they can be lots of fun!

yeah it must have been a fairly shite one, prob fit for scrap heap. the handling isnt great as standard but people who know what they are doing can drive them with few nice upgrades.:D

my berlingo van out handles them and that is wank around corners

Thanks for the insult. As I said, they were popular round my way a few years ago, a fair few modified ones went pop. The rest got crashed.

there are a few around me atm and there working for around one day a week

I like the look of them but my mate had 3, and as Lee says they are fun and fast in a straight line but crap handling and a very old and cheap feel about them!

so in essence they handling charictoristics of a wheel barrow with a partially pumped up tyre, about as reliable as Network Rail and the interior feels like it was bought from Ikea and nailed together by chimps.....

Never been in a Glanza, but my bro has the GT Turbo, same car just different shell.
Ive never heard of them blowing up at an alarming rate really, they are reliable little cars, even when modified correctly.
They do handle shite as standard, but then you are comparing them to hondas flagship hatch. Give them enough suspension goodies and they become very capable little cars.
The interiors are just like any other jap car, creaky rattley and grey. However there was the optional Recaro interior that is really nice:nice:

As for power, its almost too easy to extract power from them.

I map a lot of these they wouldn't be hectic when it comes to handling but there a strong little engine even in stock form you can push them pretty hard. I've mapped a few built ones running circa 300bhp and the acceleration is pretty nuts as they weigh very little. To put it into perspective that's around 230bhp per litre!

Sold mine a month ago. Had d2 coilovers with pillarball mounts, jam racing ecu, jam racing 1 bar actuator, TRD limited slip diff, TRD antiroll bars, magnecore leads, HKS mushroom air filter, full 2.5 inch exhaust, blitz turbo timer, blitz boost controller, uprated engine mounts, polybushed. Also it was the light weight version as in no air bags, ABS, no low boost setting etc.
quick cars and brilliant as a run around. Mine managed 40mpg driven sensibly. Mine handled quite good as the diff was really aggressive and the TRD anti roll bars helped alot.
Interior is hideous and the driving position is aweful. sat to high up. rattles everywhere and the build quality is not to great. gearboxes aren't very good at all.

overall not a bad car at all

i was in a modified one over the weekend
it had engine, suspension and brake upgrades. the chassis as a hole felt overwhelmed by the power and under breaking felt rather skittish. certainly wouldn't inspire confidence

handling and general feel from the car was fairly bad. as said the build quality is desperate and it looks dated

in a straight line its pretty quick due to being so small and light

to me it looks like a micra...
could never ever see me owning one
not a drivers car
imo

As standard they are pretty decent handling wise, engine is a right hoot though, sounds good and huffs and puffs like something out of an old WRC car. With a few mods though they are infinitely better than standard. Strut bracing, good set of coilovers and LSD improve them enormously and make them a riot to drive. Drove one with 170 odd bhp and although it's not as nice as an EK4 or EK9 to drive they are a fun little pocket rocket.

thats cos your an amazing pilot yeah,!! maybe your just a **** driver. never seen such rubbish posted in my life. have a look at this video then and there is loads of them , same as any car, need a good driver and some good choices in mods. mine handles like its on rails

Gglavin - you do seem to be taking this persoanlly. knowone is dissing you man, we are all speaking from experience.. if you have driven a stock Ek4 stock Ek9 and a Stock EP91 glanza you will honestly take all your comments back... they are awful handling car's it isn't a coincidence that we all say that...

133bhp standard, you put few hundred quid into it, should get you 160 - 180 bhp max.

technically they are 110Bhp standard and only 133Bhp in 3rd 4th and 5th gear on high boost..
i find it hard to believe £200 will get you 30 - 50 BHP....

I have owned a heavily specced EP82 gt turbo and my mate owned a completely mint standard EP91 glanza V .... so both end of the spectrums when it comes to starlets..

1. mine had a stright through 2.75" exhuast with a screamer pipe, bored out waste gate, air filter with CAI.. all pieps heat wrapped.., FMIC, blitz BOV, hard pipe for intercooler heat wrapped and boost turned up using a manual boost gauge to 0.9 Bar ( safely yo ucan run 1.0 bar on stock CT9 turbo...... max it was running 165hp..

£200 wouldn't even have bought you the dump valve...

it had tein monoflex winding master coilovers with TRD anti roll bar's and bushes it also had an adjustable panard rod thing, it had 14" superlite wheels also.. it was running a full on fast road setup and yeah it wasn't a bad handling car but to be honest when i first got a car i had a Saxo Vtr and a saxo Vtr pisses all over these for handling.. along with 106 gti's out handle them... so yeah not bad handling but out handled by a Vtr says alot TBh..

2. my mates car was a 98 spec glanza V completely standard with 33,000 miles on the clock.. :nice: all we did was over ride the stock boost restrictor.. i will upload a video of how slow it was on full boost in all gears.... also the handling was honestly Scary !! it rolled like a boat and had no feel and there was so much understeer it was unreal..

having said that they are good fun. turbo lag is definately something that has to be experienced.. please don't take this persoanlly..

Back in 2006 I had a Glanza 1.3 turbo.

Great daily drive cars, handling is ok. And you can get some serious bhp when installing other turbo and a ecu.

The Glanza is limited with stock ecu, to 5-6 psi in 1st gear :(

its 1st and 2nd gear dude..

LOW -----------HIGH
1st - 110 hp --- 1st - 110 hp
2nd - 110 hp --- 2nd - 110 hp
3rd - 110 hp --- 3rd - 133 hp
4th - 110 hp --- 4th - 133 hp
5th - 110 hp --- 5th - 133 hp

think it is 0.4 bar in low boost and 0.65 in high boost.. IIRC

however if you simply cross over the little boost pipes on the high/low boost solenoid you get 133 Hp in all 5 gears.. honestly this is the best Mod you can do on a glanza.. :) also toyota even stated that high boost compared to low boost on fuel was exactly the same as if anything low boost restriced the engine and could potentially loose MPG... just my 2 pence :)

Thanks for the correction :D

I had a 247bhp ep82 and to be hones it was the most fun car i ever owned! Ok it handled like a wet tea bag and the brakes were like digestives but i smiled everytime i drove it just because it had the character, so what if they do handle poo its not as if you can use it on the road! Lets face it their on the road more than the track anyway! The only thing i truly hate is the seating position i found myself slouching as i hate seeing the bonnet! Thats being used to hondas and low seat rails :p Not the cars fault just my prefrence!

Had a shot of my mates old one for the weekend. Was sitting roughly the 180bhp with the usual front mount intercooler, HKS goodies etc. Great wee car but like most people say, the handling was rotten.

Here it comes........ I was driving and absaloute **** wagon.

Was impressed by the engine up until 70mph in my mates but the handling let the car down massively. A week after he raved about how great the engine was, the bottom end started knocking but I put that down more to poor maintenance than build quality.

A have had 3 mate

1st one was standard running under fuel cut.. Piston rings when was low on compression in cylinder no.3 common prob as standerd manifold the 3rd port is very reatrcive.

2nd on had it in peaces put tdo4 kit greddy oil cooler on etc lost intrest and broke it for parts

And lastly the best a forged 1.1 bar hybrid running 230bhp! Now this was great was blowing away vetrca vxrs at crail and that but could not bet a dc2 due to traction problems coming away from line!
But the are overall good cars if done right ie mapping and fueling..but the more. You do to them there prone to buggering them up! But there a cheap fun turbo car any more info you need drop me a pm

again you must have been in a pile of scrap, cos mine makes absolutely no squeeks or noise, handles very good (not as good as ek9) but then again i look after mine, id say past 120mph they run out of puff, over 100mph and running out of puff?? seriously man you must have been in the biggest pile of ****

well id expect anything thats 300bhp to pull on after the ton never mind a shopping trolly

raced plenty of these around the 150bhp-180bhp and they are quick up to 4th gear but then the vtec flies by after 100mph

I've owned a 96 one and it is such a fun little car. Back about 7 years ago not many ppl had or knew what one was but this car used to surprised so many ppl.

Ok interior build is a bit crap, handling can always be sorted with after market mods. Mine went round corners like it was on tracks with suspension mods. Light, fast and loads of mods available. The Glanza looks nice standard too. I would buy one again but try and buy the last one they made which i think was 1999 model...should have better build quality.

I had a GT before the ek9, it was ok, interior was naff and handling was not great. But it was still quite fun to drive, had recently put a hybrid CT9 on mine, manifold with ext wg, decat and was running 167bhp at just under standard boost pressure which I was pretty happy with. Always regret never getting it mapped before selling it.
