i was just wondering i sold my exaust because it was a custom made 1 and it was only 2 and a quater inches wide im not sure what that is in mm. but i am guna get a new 1 a hks hi power silencer and i was wondering what was the correct size piping for that because i dont want to make the same mistake. does the vti and the ek9 need different size diamater piping running through the car??

Nope, the ek9 size is different, You can use the 60mm one :)

I have an Ek9 2.5" 5zigen exhaust for sale if you are interested, Im only at durham aswel.

2.5'' is what ya want mate, 2.25 IMO is to small for the ek9 ,you want to be using 2.25'' exhausts on a civic vti ,2.5'' on a ek9 CTR

Whats the size of the pipe in general? i setup my b16b with 57mm inside mesure, but people keep telling me its too small ^^,,

60mm is fine for most. Unless you are planning to, or already have cams/headwork etc then definately go for 2.5", or you want more noise..

ye its 2.25 on the VTI. i upgraded to an ek9 exhaust witch is 2.5 fells a good bit better allround so wouldnt go any less if u have an ek9

don't ever go more than 2.25in on a 1.6 N/A. Why? you will loose a chunk of torque...

2.25 is more suited to a 1.8.

in theory, 2.0" is best suited for a 1.6 as it provides most torque.

I'm using 2.25 and would like to use a twin loop muffler.

maybe for a 1.6 that only revs to 6500rpm, dont forget most of us rev to 8500-9000rpm there is A LOT of exhaust being generated at that level and thats the reason i always suggest 2.5" also some people have cats.

i agree blinx my car felt so much better mid and top end and that was going up to a 2.5 of the ek9

what about the middle muffler? do you guys keep it or remove it when changing the line to the 60mm?

On my del sol i keeped the 2.25mm line, since the car is smaller than a ek9 should be fine and needed a 60mm.

if you say so.......

you will gain at the very top end but dunno about below that through my experience...

Blinx, I got that info based off the B16A... :nice:

Ive lost count of how many threads Ive read about this subject on various forums , and still can't decide what size piping to go for:angry2:
My exhaust fabricator swears by 2- 2.25" for a high revving 1.6. However, those that have 2.5" systems on farely stock b16b's, i.e. with simple bolt ons like intakes, mani's, did you feel any loss in low end torque afer upgrading to a 2.5" system?

you should read this thread: http://www.ek9.org/forum/air-intake...velocity-backpressure-all-explained-here.html

also here is the main reason 2-2.25" is stupid, first of all, STOCK ek9 exhaust is 2.00" so getting 2.0 is just like stock, 2.25" might be ok if you DID NOT have a catalytic converter, but still i think its a bit restrictive, the factory manifold has a 2.5" outlet, why not match the exhuast system to that? if you get a 2.25" it might be good for stock but do you really want to have to buy a new exhuast when you get cams?

Thanks for the heads up but Ive already read that thread man. You do make valid points about why 2.5" is better though. My fabricator used the b18c as an example. He said that they come with 2.25" piping stock, so that size piping would be more than efficient for a b16b?

thats not logic. as i mentioned if you dont have a cat then 2.25" is ok, but once you do more mods it will be a restriction, you will not lose any power with a 2.5" all the japaese companies are 2.37"

I personally think theres not much difference between 0.4CR and 600rpm compared to 1.6cc and 1.8cc engine + B18C has 11.1CR. No replacement for displacement for a N/A motor.

sometimes when pipes are too big, it's like having no exhuast at all and creates no velocity pull in the exhuast (which promotes intake induction) until very top end when you have to change gears already... anyway...i give up!...

best way is if you got the CASH$$$$ install both and put it on the dyno... I'm out...

some intresting threads and things. so i was wondering i am guna get a hks system from japan for my ek9 and what size diamator piping would it be??
