just thought i'd put some pics up of the reason why i bought a ek9 after working on this for the last 2 years i wanted a car to drive i could take for a few track days something kind of practical but a real drivers car. i started this with intentions of a quick project but it kind of got out of control and now the light at the end of the tunnel is a long way off so i'll have to enjoy the vtec for now

Looks like a nice bit of kit, any more pictures?

 I think we need a full build thread on this one

I'll have to see what i have in photos i got a bit lax with taking photos for a while but here is one of where the running gear started life

f00k me, that's awesome! Build thread please!

What turbo kit and turbo is that?

Turbo is a gt3071r twin scroll, manifold and all pipework is custom runs 2 tial 38mm wastegates should be good for around 450-500hp should be fun in a car that weighs 750kg

will find some more photos and do a bit of a spec sheet by tonight cheers for the comments

chassis:
2004 vx220 turbo stripped back to alloy lotus chassis
lotus elise/exige s1 sills reinforced with kevlar bonded to chassis
lotus exige s1 bodywork fitted with aerocatches for quick removal
hotlap 6 point type d rollcage
lightweight doorbars
polycarb windows
nylatron suspension bushes soon to be rose jointed
Penske adjustable coilovers
advanced fuel systems bag tank 70ltr
ap lotus motorsport 4pot front 2 pot rear
team dynamics 16x7 front and 17x9 rear
Dunlop 200/580 16 and 265/630 17 slicks
varley race battery
fev fire extinguisher
Armtek battery kill

Engine:

current engine in the car is standard z20let but rebuilding a z20leh version
cosworth pistons
steel rods
acl bearings
arp hsk
arp rod kit
arp mains
injector dynamics 1000cc injectors
aeromotive fpr
bosch 044 pump
all aeroquip/earls hoses
Garrett gt3071r twin scroll turbo with v-band
2x tial 38mm wastegates
custom stainless steel exhaust manifold with divided t3 flange
custom inlet manifold with side intake
custom large bore fuel rail
PWR 6x10 water/air charge cooler with toyota st205 charge cooler pump and Garrett rad
tial re-circ bov
custom titanium exhaust
head standard at the minute but will be getting some porting maybe bigger valves and need to find suitable cams due to the nature of the car I need to build it to make good progressive power getting loads of lag then huge power in a very light rear wheel drive car mid corner would not be good.
The twin scroll turbo should help spool up nice and quick and the short intake with PWR should reduce lag
Motec m400 ecu with fly by wire anti lag and launch options (still to be purchased these are expensive until you add up all the options sensors wiring and a dash and all interface wiring then it's just crazy you could buy a very nice ek9 instead) Oooops

pic of just after getting bodywork fitted most parts are used genuine parts front clam had a bit of damage but the real deal fits so much better than copy parts at this point the car had a custom orange blue silver white black thing going on not a good look!

Oh the Exige S1 is such an awesome looking car, and the way you have that coming together its going to be a real weapon on track :) Would love to drive one of these!!!!

Absolutely amazing car, the S1 was the best chassis!! And with an engine spec like that this should be one supercar beating machine. Loving the Ti exhaust, did you weld yourself?

build qaulity looks top notch dude.. thanks for sharing.. to say the least it looks scary but too drive it must be something else !!!!!

the vx220 chassis is the same as the series 2 its almost the same as the s1 apart from the sills being lower and the subframe is the same as the s2 toyota engine the s1 exige bodywork is a bolt on fit at the front the sills bond straight on the doors bolt on the only thing different is the wheelbase is slightly longer on the vx due to the rear subframe so it means messing with the rear arches or whole rear clam, its only 40something mm longer but enough to make things difficult

I'm thinking of getting a VX220 and one of the things which cropped up in my research is that the clams are hard to come by and expensive so it's good to know there are some options out there. Are you the first to do this?

as far as i know its the only one and you're right about the vx clams they are impossible to get hold of at a sensible price somebody has done a s2 exige based on a vx but i dont know of any s1's all the elise based cars are great imo its a must try car for any petrol head my first was this
IMG_0365.jpg

standard s1 elise so much fun to drive a but lacking grunt sold it years ago to buy a skyline
IMG_0794.jpg

this had the grunt but not the thrill of the lotus so i decided to have both lotus and power hence the project
