Never done this, who has? How did you do it?

Been reading your ok to just use an APC or AG engine bay cleaner stuff, then get the hose in there after? I'm still a little sceptical about putting the hose in there.

Use carrier bags over the fuse box / battery / distributor maybe?

I know people who swear by jet washing engine bays (just dont aim at fuse boxes and connectors). Spray with a strong degreasant, leave for 10 mins then jet wash off. Finish the wrest off with a micro fiber. Can stack up loads of products to use on certain areas, fine wet and dry and machine polish works well on block and inlet. Gunk is also bloody great.

definitely dont wet the distributor, this could cause you problems and dont put to much water around the spark plug cover, if water gets in there you'll have to take the plugs out and dry them and the whole.. no real need to cover them, just dont go sticking the hose right on them to soak them :D

Yeah as DOS says, it's fine jet washing the bay, but just watch where and for how long you spray certain parts. So as said, no aiming for fuse boxes and spark plugs! I'd have your engine running at the same time, helps loosen up the sticky stuff being a bit warmer and dries alot faster too :nice:

Have the engine hot before starting.. avoid directly hitting the exhaust manifold to avoid causing cracks.

it also means if you do manage to hit some uncovered electrics etc then you can shut the bonnet and allow the heat to dry it out for you. admittedly it's best to sort it properly but this way you have a pretty decent failsafe if your unfamiliar with your engines electrics etc.

also with the engine running it allows you to spot if the hitting anything in particular causes the car to run rough or misfire or anything straight away giving you an instant indication of areas to avoid

just don't do it and you'll have no problems! get in there with sponges and microfibre clothes, bit of elbow grease goes along way ;)

yep I think I agree with you there pal! still don't trust shoving a hose in the engine bay.

as mentioned gunk is some really good stuff, used it on my own

Iv heard steem cleaning is really good way to freshing things back up!

Correct i cant belive people are jet washing and hosing there bays washing u engine with cold water makes it more likly to get into the elctrical parts, why if you use steam by the time it hits the engine its basicaly dry. Best motive steam clean chassis legs and all hose ect then do all round the bottom and then the top half of engine by hand.

Its best to blast grime of the rub it in

I agree with you there Jimbo least you know there is no chance of anything dodgy happening with just sprayin water all over the place :nice:

i dont think i would be happy putting water in bay never mind some thats at pressure :nono:

Hand held steam cleaner may help but good old elbow grease and time will do the job :nice:

One of the first jobs i done on my car.

Bit of degreaser and in with the brushes and microfibres. I didnt spend ages, but it made such a difference.
