As there are not many race cars I thought I would do a little build thread

The first evolution of the car started off as a standard auto ek3, which the running gear was quickly dumped after all the components required had been collected,

98 spec 5 stud hub conversion was done
custom headers
Mugen twin loop exhaust
Custom engine mounts
S14 silva radiator
Rota 17 Attacks, with Hankook RS2 251/40/17
BC adjustable suspension
Standard DC2 brakes with Ferodo DS3000 pads

I bought some used slicks and tried them on a track day....Bad idea...Without a proper wheel alignment etc the car decided to kiss the tire barrier damaging the left hand side of the car. Lucky it was only superfical so I managed to have a run for the rest of the day, until the rear engine mount broke after my mate took it for a blat.

I'll try and post some pics soon

Here are some pics of my build

Custom headers

still more wiring to be done

custome facbricated exhaust with mugen twin loop muffler

headers are very close to brake lines etc to keep motor towards centre of car as opposed to the first generation hasport kits

Pic of car at Speedworks in Palmerston North that did the fabrication and dyno tunning of my car

one of the custom fabricated mounts. I did not get prefabricated mounts, due to the cost and shipping from the states as well as I did not like the position of the motor with those mounts.

Twinloop is restricting flow surely.......................

Twinloop is restricting flow surely.......................

No Not really, as we tested it by removing the rear muffler and we did lose power. From what we saw though it definately lost power based on the tune, the header length and exhaust design we did lose power in the region of 5-10 hp (from memory). I was not wanting to get the car retuned with another muffler or retuned without the rear muffler so see if there are any gains/losses in tq/pwr over the mugen muffler

I really like the mugen muffler as it sounds stock driving normally and has a nice roar at wide open throttle. The only thing I don't like is that it weighs a ton

2.5 inch....I am not so sure about going to a 3 inch...It just means more $$$ but will not necessary be any faster around the track

3" is the way forward, my friends using 3"

what power you making? where you from?

From New Zealand....Making just under 220hp on a hub dyno.

What setup is your friend using?
