EK9 V UK Spec ep3 Type R


I wouldn't argue against the EP3 being slightly quicker actually. I've owned both, the EK9 is such a special car I couldn't care less about half a second.

- It's the original CTR
- It doesn't look like a breadvan
- It's rare
- It's got proper, old skool VTEC
- It's got red, recaro seats
- It's awesome:D
 
def agree, if i had choice id still pick a stock ek9 cos the smile factor is way better... not a fan of the k20 motor... b series all the way.
The only reason i picked a teg over ek9 is it was the cleaner of everything i viewed..... no other reason

ek9 best type r ever made...
 
Run the calculator for both uk ep3 and ek9 and you'll see the ek9 is quicker in theory.

although not sure how accurate this is.
Lack of torque I find is not as that critical as this car is relatively light anyway.

This would be why I beat or match my mates uk Ep3 in a straight line every time.:win:

Both our cars are unmodified other than the spoon muffler and marginally lighter weight wheels I have.
 
WHAT... ur all mad!!!! the ek9 gets its ass handed to it by ep3..... the ek9 has only 121 torque... ep3's have about 155!!!!

STOCK 1/4 time's... best motoring by the way....

sorry lads the ep3 is far ahead.... i have seen stock ones race!!
1st and 2nd are simular but third and 4th the ep pulls a few lenghts... both stock!!!

my integra type r can just about beat one!!! just!!

around a track it is seconds ahead... the ek9 i think has better handling but the power diff and 6 speed just leaves ek9 for dead on 1:20 track ur talking like 3-4 seconds... again ive seen this on local track. the best ive seen a stock ek9 do is 2:13 on standard tyres, the ep3 completly stock did 2:05!!!!


the track was mondello international racing circut. (best dc2 was 2:08)

i was going to get an ep3, drove it and it was no where near the driving experience the teg was,

power to weight the ek9 is better, but it is all down to the LSD, it makes it a beast round bends
 
i have seen in flesh... ep3 is quicker no matter what calc says..

the ep3 weighs like 1100kg
the ek9 1050..... with the extra torque and 6 speed box.... id rather be 50kg heavier ha ha...

im not a fan but there quicker in every sense.... unfortunatly

I will be giving it its first quater mile run at the begining of the year - Crail Raceway up in fife, Just purchased some M/T Drag Tires so hoping for good times.. Should be a fun day out !!

i was driving the EK9 on the mountain roads yesterday doing stupidly quick speeds, the car had very solid feel & handling, along with sticky RE01 tires it was a match made in heaven. the experience was unreal it was like a dream driving the EK9 uphill & especially downhill, the car & tire are telling you when they are at their limits but when you do go slightly over it the car still has a little more hidden to bail you out of a mistake. we took turns driving the EK9 up & down the mountain we spent a full tank of gas & it was one of the best days of our life, all the way we were smiling from ear to ear & that alone is reason enough to own & keep one, the dragstrip guys are missing out on some real fun. :D :nice:

we got a video of the drive we did on the mountains but it's a crappy camera phone & i'll be posting it up on youtube once my brother gets it uploaded in the PC.

well i know for a fact that know matter how hard i tried my standard ek9 would not keep up with a standard ep3 after about 70 mph the ep3 was so much stronger
but compared the ek9 is far more the real type r and its that whole driving pleasure that we should be looking at,many dc2 drivers dont like the dc5 this is the same sort of thing
you want some thing quick and comfortable the ep3 is the car for you , you want some thing a bit raw and race breed then its the ek9
 
i dont know how you all think except the few that an stock ek9 has a chance against an ep3!!! then ur also agreeing that it has a chance against a dc2.... sorry lads.... the hard cruel fact is that the ep3 is much quicker 1/4 mile... one second is an eternaty!!!!! so again all of you that think the ek9 is as quick as an ep3 then that suggest's that it is in fact the same as dc2..... i can post videos to prove that one!!! ha ha... and about the track the ep3 cleans up...

dont get me wrong i drove both in anger!!! if i had a choice i would hands down pick a ek9 as there much more a drivers car BUT i still face the fact that it is quicker both 1/4 and track... stock ek9s arnt the fastest stock... more fun but its only a 1600cc

EK9 does 15secs 1/4 mile officially.

I own dc5, ek9, dc2 and bros FN2 and I have to say the K20A no matter 1200kgs or 1300kgs after 100kmph, the K20A outruns it after 3rd gear. It's the fact that the larger displacement motor churns out more torque to keep it pulling at high speeds.

But webartie, I don't know how the heck can an EP3 outrun the EK9 more than 10secs???! Are you sure it was the same conditions, day, tyres etc. Thats like another totally 2 leagues difference. Surely the EP3 has the power advantage but weight wise the ek9 is like 100-150kgs lighter.

oh wells... time to take out my stereo from the 9...
 
this is mad there is no way on the 1/4 is the ep3 faster than a ek9.
i have an ek4 and not been beatin by one yet. iv raced loads of them so it wasnt a one off win. same with ITR's its about 50/50 with them.

hands down on the open road ep3 pulls away but not that much

ek9=15.5 i have never seen one this slow all the ones iv seen are in the hi 14s
i can even get a 15 dead in my ek4
 
my ek9 is currently having a spoon stroker kit fitted, 98 spec dc2 manifold and a 5zigen zorst system.
how do you rate my chances against the ep3?

Good I guess, but a stock EK9 could keep up with an EP3 when driven properly anyway.

It won't however, outrun it.

1/4 miles times, for both my cars, same 1/4

ek9 - 14.6
ep3 - 14.7

on the road, in a straight line, they both felt very similar.

i raced a few uk ep3's on the road with my ek9, some i absolutely trashed, some were dead even, every car/driver is different.

on a good road/track, the ek9 was miles better. the lsd in the ep3 didnt seem to work as well, and the overall grip wasnt as good. the ek9 gave you more confidence and reacted alot better than the ep3. i suppose the ep3 was a bit boring to be honest, nowhere near as fun!

over the 2 i'd choose an ek9 any time. i'd have another. i wouldn't have another ep3, uk or jdm.
 
What mods do you have dude? Were the ep's stock our modded?

my ek has

4-1 header
ek9 middle pipe n b/box
short ram air filter with good cold air feed

thats all thats done to my car and that dont make up the 38bhp they have over me std.

all the ones i was racing all had at least filters and cat backs on them

the only time iv been beat by an ep3 is after 110-115mph

i agree with u. my mate haribo run a 14.6 with his CTR 2 it had spoon N1 and AEM induction kit and ep3 dont even come near him never seen a uk ep3 run under 15 sec 1/4 but every ek9 iv seen has broke into the 14s
