EK9 Racecar

Congratulations mate , I'm 12 years miserably married
And it only gets better! Haha :angry2::beer::angry2:
Nowadays it's my car that makes me happy lol
Only joking ! Not .

Well I managed to sneak into the garage for 10minutes to give you this little update! :))

So we have a B16B cylinder head with Brian Crower stainless steel valves, new valve guides, skunk 2 titanium valve springs and skunk2 valve Spring retainers.

Also some Skunk2 tuner 1 camshafts

And finally these seats

Will be perfect for me, they need a good clean, and the passenger one is a bit worse for wear.

Cylinder head jealousy bro!
wonder how the tuner 1s will go with a turbo setup?

Well the guy I got them off was running them on a b16b turbo setup, he was recommended these camshafts by Romain..... So I'm told.
So hopefully they should be good.
I was looking at upgrading my head and the cost was mega on parts, I knew of this head for sale and thought balls to it! It will save me money in the long run.
The camshafts and seats were a spur of the moment thing!

Well I say spur of the moment, I was thinking about the cams on the way down to collect them. The seats were a surprise cause I didn't know he had any, they were what I had my eye out for anyway.

If you decide you don't want the head I may be able to help you with that lol
If not I may want your current head for some valve springs etc

Started stripping and cleaning up my new head today, all looks good.

Called up the machine shop and the block should be back this week.

:blinx::blinx:Been looking at my new cam's....
Not too sure if I'm going to fit them.
There are some scratches on the profiles and, looking at the quality I'm not convinced either....
They're probably fine to be honest and I'm being a bit over critical.

Think I'm going to fit the standard cam's to be safe. :blinx:

Cleaned and inspected the oil pump.
Tolerance wise it seems fine.

But if you look inside the teeth on the outer gear, there is pitting.
Looks like an new oil pump then.
Anyone seen this before?

The pump was making good oil pressure before strip down but I'll fit an new one just to be safe.

The marks on the cams look a bit suspect, ive removed a few sets of OEM cams and recently fitted Drag cartel to my own motor and I have never seen marks like that... Maybe someone was a bit rough when fitting or removing them before you got them?

I would change that oil pump too just to be on the safe side, any marks at all and its worth changing for your engines sake imo

Exactly that's what I thought.
I think they have been knocked about a bit.
My OEM cam's are perfect, not a mark on them. Will be using the Oem.

And yeh I'm not going to chance it, new oil pump will be ordered.

Pitting or scoring is no good!

Iv seen a guy putting a shim in where the spring is on the oil pump and that little shim boosts oil pressure by 10 psi or something similar.
Heads up if anyone wants to up there pressure.

Looks as though somebody dropped the camshaft. It's likely it was stood on its cam gear and knocked over by accident.
If I'm honest I wouldn't have bothered with the cams anyway, imo the stock type r cam is very good for boost. It's likely fine to fit but if your remotely worried about it then your not losing much if anything in terms of performance.

Oil pump.
I know abit about oil pumps lol the marks you see is just from stray bits of debre that's found its way past the oil pickup mesh. Alittle is ok but alot will lead to wear and oil pressure issues.
I'd always fit a new pump on an engine build, especially a forged job like this.
The "shimming" above is just adding preload to the relief spring in the pump, this is already done by honda by way of a washer and increasing oil pressure further cam cause issues with other things further down the line. First thing that comes to mind would be the turbochargers oil seals...
Good idea for the non R pumps I guess

That cam has almost definitely been clamped in a vice or mole grips and slipped, probably had a rag around it and ripped through as it slipped.

Likely some one trying to tighten or remove the pulley

That's a good call that!

 I agree that sounds like what happend. I'll contact the person I bought them from.

Thanks for the info guys.
I'll be fitting an new oil pump, seems sensible on a big build.

Had a call last thing today, block is all done :alone: will pick it up end of the week.

I totally stripped the head this evening, all bar the valve stem oil seals which ill replace.

After I stripped it, I picked it up and I can hear a rattle..... Will have a look into that tomorrow!

Little bit more cleaning and inspecting done on the head at lunch.

Collecting the block Friday morning,
I've found a chemical stripping company close to home that is going to do my block and head for me,
Turns out he is located round the corner from the Honda plant in Swindon! He said he does work for Honda, said he would show me the processing too  looking forward to that!
Also hopefully a big delivery from the states in the next few weeks.

Picked up the block, Pistons, crankshaft and rods from the machine shop this morning :))
All looking good, crank has been polished and rods are good, and block is re-bored and honed.

I was unable to get to the chemical dippers this morning.
Going to clean it myself this bank holiday.

Going to lap the valves in Saturday night too as the wife is going out! :nice:

Will get more pictures over the weekend.

Also I need to do a big order next week so I can build the engine back up!
