Hey guys, my names Ryan. I currently drive a Toyota Glanza V but am looking to get an ek9 in the not so distant future. Looking to get loads of info on them atm compared to my V.

Firstly what sort of speed difference is there compared to a 220bhp glanza?

Handling compared? (lots of twistys near me :) )

And mpg? because it would be my only car apart from my work van.

Cheers for any feedback :)

Ryan.

in fairness performance wise the glanza would be quicker handling the civic will be alot better glanzas are like shopping trolleys with a turbo but you will need to put alot of money in to match the glanza speed

Dam, I need to decide weather to go for handling or all out speed, im scratching my head atm lol!

what about mpg?

and is it easy to make even 200bhp from the B16b?

Ryan.

i have a b16a and with mugen manifold catback and **** intake with cat iv reached 178.7 on a dyno dynamics dyno since iv added a js intake and de-cat im guessing bout 185ish thats with stock internals you can always fit a itr engine they are a straight swap and roughly 190-200 standard depending on condition for over 200 a 1.8 is defo nedded un less you want to turbo but imo better to stay n/a

Yea i would want to stay N/A tbh, dont think i would turbo it unless i had serious money i would probs prefer to K20a it lol! Well i guess the B16b would make just over 200bhp then with mods and stroked to a B18 or swapped in i could maybe hope for 200whp at a push maybe?

cant really compare them mate.

ive had a glanza and know many with big power ones, they're very easy to make bhp from, but round the corners, they're ****. truly, and utterly, ****. the chassis is absolutely apalling. if i could have an ek9 chassis with a 4e-fte engine, it'd be quite a car, only problem is, you get to a point when power becomes pointless in a fwd car, no matter what magic lsd you have.

not sure it'd be 'easy' to make 200bhp from a b16b, as they aren't anywhere near as tunable as a 4e (boost up, safc, manifold etc and 220bhp is easy, with loads of torque), but at the end of the day, its an entirely different kettle of fish. round the corners, the torque from the 4e would be a nightmare, whereas with something high revving like a b16 or b18, or even a k20, you'll be able to keep your foot flat and keep the power on longer.

i came from a 350bhp s14a 200sx a few weeks ago, had an ep3 civic type-r (k20a) for a week or so, now have the ek9. it feels horrifically underpowered, obviously, even compared to the ep3 (as that was around 210bhp or so, with a dc sports exhaust and Gruppe M Carbon intake, which is a work of art).
I dont mind this, as i'll be doing alot of track work and didnt want to waste a nice car like an ep3 on track, as its a very comfy car compared to the ek9, as you can cruise around in perfect comfort as well as go quickly if you want, so i was definately after something i could rag about and not really care about, hence the ek9.

Take the ek9 to a track with a glanza, and it'll show what a heap of junk the starlet really is. like i said, i've owned both, and you cant compare them. entirely different vehicles.

it WILL feel underpowered on the road, but get on a twisty track, like a sprint or something, and vtec will make perfect sense, i had a revelation as before i had the ep3 (about 3 weeks ago), i was all about boost. when you're smashing through the gears, foot to the floor, on the limits of grip, with that engine singing at over 8k, it just makes SO much sense, and you quickly forget about boost.

if you're driving up a straight long road, side by side, then you'll be very dissapointed....but that's really not what they're for ;)

See thats what i wanted to hear dude! Obviously i would be crying when a Glanza over took me on a straight, but as you said ek9's arent meant for that.

I keep thinking i need something thats better handling and I would LOVE to have a B18 or K20 ek9 / civic but its just fonding a good 1 and getting rid off my Glanza.

Would it be worth getting an ek9 and doing the conversion or should i look for 1 already done to cut costs?

Ryan.

ek9 with a good b18 conversion ( couple of mods etc ... ) would probably be even faster than your glanza in a straight line , with a k20 it would eat the glanza off the road !!

For more info/comparisons just have a good search on the site....:)

With power figures, one mans 185BHP is anothers 200 unfortunately...

Best way is to be conservative with claims IMO, & that means a dyno-dynamics RR. On one of these dynos most B16B motors seem to make power in the 170-180 range...The biggest achilees heel they have is not peak power, but a lack of torque

A B18C is the logical step forward as many of the guys here have shown...You are then looking at an honest 180+BHP with ~130lbs/ft to back it up on said dyno:nice:

I'll tell you how I see it. I bought a Civic 1.4 as first car and modded it a lil, then left it and bought a glanza v. My glanza sits at 200bhp and keeps with the likes of evo's. Glanza now sits at the corner of yard not being used. I raced an Integra DC2 with a full spoon system and guess what..... I got wipped.

Now I'm back in Civic with a B18c sitting just about to get put in this week. I love my Civic and Damn I love the sound of vtec. I'll take a picture tomorrow of both sitting beside each other civic is miles nicer looking and handles like a dream.

If it makes it any easier for you I went from an Evo 5 to a EK9 & dont miss the power 1 bit. The balance of the EK9 is awsome:nice:

i say go for the hatch, for good power at low dollar, i would go B20b1 block/B16a2 head use the S300 hondata. personly i went with a K20a2 push 208hp / 156tq stock use K-pro. honda love

You could even go a step further and B20 it, My friends B20 was pushing 276 bhp on a dyno before he wrote it off lol!
Heres a thread on EK9.org an pretty much all the info you would need!

Hope it helps! :nice:

Go for the EK9 mate, you won't be dissapointed. I have owned a fair few cars in my time and i can say 100% the EK9 is the best car iv ever driven. They are amazing, especially with a b18c, so i can't imagine what their like with a k20, but i would like to find out!! :nice:

Cheers for all the info guys :nice: Has helped me try to decide what to do.

Gota think if i want an ek9 and insure it lol or get another turbo kit for the V :(

Just 1 more thing, whats the mpg like on an B16b and B18c?

Ryan.

in my opinion i'd say there is no difference in the mpg. I reckon i get about 30 with the b18 same as the b16 really.

I can notice though, when u vtec the b18c it uses much more fuel than the b16b which is obvious i suppose. but driving sensibly i'd say they are the same.

:drive:

I think if you take an EK9, put a B18c in it, with some good bolt ons (I/H/E) and then a remap, that it won't be that much slower than your 220bhp Starlet. Maybe even keep up or take over.

Ok is there any good importers you recommend?

I have about 3 grand plus my Glanza, which in this market is probably worth 4500 if it sells that is or i could part ex preferably.

Ryan.

type-r-dunk (fastjapcars) is the man to see he's a member on the forum. I flew down from Edinburgh to buy mines from him, and for 7500 you'll get a minter im sure.

What colour are you after?
