EK9 info for n00bie!

Hey guys, my names Ryan. I currently drive a Toyota Glanza V but am looking to get an ek9 in the not so distant future. Looking to get loads of info on them atm compared to my V.

Firstly what sort of speed difference is there compared to a 220bhp glanza?

Handling compared? (lots of twistys near me :) )

And mpg? because it would be my only car apart from my work van.

Cheers for any feedback :)

Ryan.

hiya mate.

welcome to site and to the world of ek9's. i'm a recently new owner of an ek9 and am loving it so much. i've never owned, been in or had the opportunity to be driven in a Glanza but have seen a few on the roads over my time and thought they looked fast but never knew they were pushing out 220bhp!! i came to an ek9 after owning a fn2 and although they maybe lacking some power, their amazing to drive and are so much fun!

You ask in a later post how easy it is to make 200bhp from the b16b and when i got mine dyno'd shortly after ownership, i was told the b16b was a mechanical masterpiece and to make extra bhp through 'bolt on' modifications is very difficult and many may even lose power and the only way to get a decent power hike is to purchase an aftermarket ecu, which cost in the region of £800 fitted, which lowers the vtec point and allows all the engine settings to be amended, i was then told one of these could get the power up to around the 200bhp mark with a correct setup. Mine has a CAI and a cat-back exhaust at the moment so will probably get an exhaust manifold before saving for the ecu but i was advised money would be better spent on suspension setup's as the engine is difficult to extract extra power from as Honda had done such a great job of it.

As for mpg, I manage to consistently get between 225 and 250 miles per 35 litre tank, which equates to 28.5 mpg. That's mixing short journeys to work in rush hour, motorway driving and country road vtec blasts. I think their amazing on fuel considering the performance and it's more about smiles per mile for me and the ek9 gives me plenty of those!

All in all, the ek9 is a great car. If there as great as your Glanza, I cannot comment on but if you do move over, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Good luck in your choice!

Andy
