i recently fitted an carbon firbre bonnet on my ek9 . reason been i think it looks the part an is makin the car that bit lighter :p

anyways was jus wondering how much lighter is a carbon bonnet compared to the standard ek9 bonnet ?? from my experience in takin it of it was pretty heavy took 2 of us , compaired to the carbon one which i can lift with my baby finger???????? weight differcence please cheers lads :drive:

Would like to know to.. I put a seibon carbon bonnet on my ek9 but I had it on before I woundered what was the difference..Should have weighed it

My carbon bonnet was about 8kg

Led to believe an oem is 18..........

Not sure of the brand of mine, the FRP framing on the underside is quite minimal unlike a seibon which is fully moulded, so at a guess a seibon would be about 10kg
 
How hard is it to install a CF hood/bonnet? Someone done this themselves and are there any things to take into account?
 
If you cut out the structural members on the OEM ek9 bonnet I do beleive it'll be lighter than a c/f one. :nice:
 
Not enough difference to care hehe. Not to warrant the dramatic change in appearance anyway.

OEM colour is much nicer imo. I had a carbon bonnet and just went off it. I could lift both bonnets with ease. The carbon one wasn't as light as i thought. It still weight a good few KG's.

If your worried about looks get it painted. 8 kilo saving is well worth it imo

-8KG is worth £300+ ?

You must have a lot of money, fair play. If the 8KG was free, now that would make sense. I felt no actual difference with and without my carbon bonnet. Thats like a large bag of shopping.

I reckon you will shave about 0.1 seconds off a lap time(IF THAT) around a track with the minus 8KG. Driving perfectly every lap. Acceleration wouldn't even be noticeable. Sorry to be so specific, just saying in the real world 8KG makes 0 difference.
