Does this seem fair?

Sorry Shaun, I was replying to somebody else (see the quote in that reply)

I'm obviously not at work so can't give the exact figures now, I've no idea where you got the valves idea from but;

Remove head,
Skim
Headgasket
Gen Honda seals
Gen Honda Thermostat
ARP Head studs
Recut seats
Recut valves
Check and rebuild head.
New water pump
Set valve clearances.
Check map

These prices were given a breakdown in full before the work was carried out and you agree'd.

I didn't know you weren't happy, You never said during our conversation. I specifically asked you if you were happy with what I put forward and you said you was. I certainly don't want an argument, on here, or on the phone.

Ahhh ok. See I never knew all that work was done for that price. I have asked for paper work when the build was finished. I was very happy with the work but when the turbo blew and manifold cracked I seen my arse. Then it just seemed to have taken longer then I thought and the extra money I need to pay.

Well I'm glad you aren't looking or an argument as
It's the last thing I want

I can only see emails till I'm back at work. I sent you an email 23 July at 17.03 with a breakdown of the price. This is how you knew the amount to pay.

I'm glad you was happy, and I'm sure you will be again when the car is back up and running.

As said previously. I think there is an issue elsewhere to cause the issue, (more or less always the case) The manifold will be repaired and the map will be checked FOC, and the turbo repaired at cost price.

Emails get lost and deleted, I just wanted a hard copy to
Put in my folder, I could show people ect and make
It easy to sell if I wanted too.

I'm sure I will be happy when it's back out. Just the money side of things

Why didn't you know that? You might have not known before the work was carried out but you knew when you paid cash and got the receipt right?

Just incase you didn't get it then I'm sure he can provide you with a dated receipt for that head work so that won't be a problem then as he would have copies, or for any of the other work carried out, stuff you don't have to ask for as they are provided anyway

Is the above list everything that was done to the car? I built a fully built b18c with full skunk2 head, 1k custom head, intake port polish and weisco piston, brain crower rods for less that that and that's even after buying all my oem parts from Honda and after run in map and final map off vtec6000(anoghus)
For future reference make the trip to anoghus he's the man when it comes to mapping a car

Beleive it or not ricky, i was semi defending you when i said tuning old motors can go wrong lol

Don't think so. Atleast wasn't the case earlier on Facebook, some how he popped up on my feed.

When will people see sense, use a reputable mapper and engine builder like RDT.tv

Heard so many bad stories now, read around the net and its nothing but bad, blown engines, MELTED turbos poor fabrication etc the list is endless

Absolutely agree Ash. The reason I used Will at RDT to map my B18C turbo is because of the his high regard from the people who have been there. I can honestly say I have no worries leaving my car there to be worked on. He doesn't BS you and he goes out of his way to make sure things are right.

Anybody who needs their poorly fitted/ill advised turbo conversions sorting out, give him a call. -- RACE DYNO TUNING --

^^^ did he not make a kunt of Whitemans HC b18?? Though he has had loads of issues after using him?

Aye, he also built Johns(j700ock) old high comp B18C which ended up broke as well IIRC.
The ITR-DC2 guys seem to like like Will, but there are definitely bad stories about him as well - Im pretty sure he is also on the more expensive side.
His ek9 turbo was awesome though.

You are taking a chance on any tuner/engine builder, they all have fans/haters

edit: MickyL's posts seem oddly conspicuous to me, brand new user no posts joins to big up Will at RDT with a post that looks like an advert lol.

Nah, no advert mate. Ash knows who I am. Been on a couple of trackdays with hm in my turbo DC2

£6600 way to much . I got a brand new oem short block for £1,700 rebuild head new valves springs new sk2 cams new gaskets remap £1,500. The car has been soo good last race season .

What's his labour rate?

Did you get the call then Shaun?

I tried to call him a couple of times but he was too busy sorting his holiday.

We are building the turbo for when he returns and will come to a resolution then.

As said previously it isn't a warranty claim but we are trying to help Shaun out.

Just to be clear to others it wasn't Race Tech that were involved with the above post.

Our labour rate depends on the job. I.e. If we are making a manifold, its different to mapping on the dyno, or machining a block. We have to take into account machine costs/wear etc.

£6600 is indeed a lot of money. However the car had a lot more than just the basics.

A typical 300hp drive in drive out turbo build is around £3000.

However start adding other things;

Cooling system,
Clutches
Exhaust
Breather tanks
General maintenance work
Drive shafts
ECU
Engine mounts.
Baffled sumps
Brakes
Gauges
etc,

The price soon increases. (the above isn't a list of the work done to Shaun's car, but he knew and had a price breakdown of each and every step before any work was carried out)

Our like for like quotes are usually very competitive and failure rate very low (we have done over 100 of these conversions now). People just need to remember to maintain them, and check over them periodically. I'm not saying Shaun didn't. But something must have gone wrong, for the turbo housing and manifold to fail simultaneously, this would indicate a high EGT issue probably caused by a faulty fuel pump/low fuel pressure or something of this nature.
Which is what we agreed to check to find the cause as well as fix the immediate issues. When I last spoke to Shaun.
