Did you get the call then Shaun?
I tried to call him a couple of times but he was too busy sorting his holiday.
We are building the turbo for when he returns and will come to a resolution then.
As said previously it isn't a warranty claim but we are trying to help Shaun out.
Aye, he also built Johns(j700ock) old high comp B18C which ended up broke as well IIRC.
The ITR-DC2 guys seem to like like Will, but there are definitely bad stories about him as well - Im pretty sure he is also on the more expensive side.
His ek9 turbo was awesome though.
You are taking a chance on any tuner/engine builder, they all have fans/haters
edit: MickyL's posts seem oddly conspicuous to me, brand new user no posts joins to big up Will at RDT with a post that looks like an advert lol.
Just to be clear to others it wasn't Race Tech that were involved with the above post.
£6600 way to much . I got a brand new oem short block for £1,700 rebuild head new valves springs new sk2 cams new gaskets remap £1,500. The car has been soo good last race season .
What's his labour rate?
Our labour rate depends on the job. I.e. If we are making a manifold, its different to mapping on the dyno, or machining a block. We have to take into account machine costs/wear etc.
£6600 is indeed a lot of money. However the car had a lot more than just the basics.
A typical 300hp drive in drive out turbo build is around £3000.
However start adding other things;
Cooling system,
Clutches
Exhaust
Breather tanks
General maintenance work
Drive shafts
ECU
Engine mounts.
Baffled sumps
Brakes
Gauges
etc,
The price soon increases. (the above isn't a list of the work done to Shaun's car, but he knew and had a price breakdown of each and every step before any work was carried out)
Our like for like quotes are usually very competitive and failure rate very low (we have done over 100 of these conversions now). People just need to remember to maintain them, and check over them periodically. I'm not saying Shaun didn't. But something must have gone wrong, for the turbo housing and manifold to fail simultaneously, this would indicate a high EGT issue probably caused by a faulty fuel pump/low fuel pressure or something of this nature.
Which is what we agreed to check to find the cause as well as fix the immediate issues. When I last spoke to Shaun.
