Does anyone know if CW is covered with a layer of clearcoat or is it a base colour? Like when it was bought from new, someone told me it is a base colour that never got a layer of clearcoat. I´m going to respray the car next week so was just wondering how it was back then..

Thats strange, I thought ALL cars that come out the factory had "finished" paint jobs. (i.e. clear coat/lacker ! )

figured it out. Honda painted C/W with clearcoat until 1993 and after that it´s without.

:drive:
Say it takes 5 litres to paint a car? Well if honda where to to paint the type R in clear over base this would make the car heavier. For it would be 3 layers of paint. Primer, base and clear coat. 5 for primer 5 for base and 5 for clearcoat. Thats 15 litres or 15 kilos! paint the car in solid championship white and you dont need laquer saving as well as alot of money you save 5 kilos weight!! :L

whats CW? if a paint job dosent have a clearcoat, it will chip, trust me on this, honda's all have clear coats. when they get old, especially the integra's you can see the clear coat chip off.

some paints have the clear coat inside of them already. so you dont need to apply a clear coat on top of the paint.

CW = Championship White.

CW does not have clear coat, just hardener that makes the finish shiny. And you should never apply clear coat on white paints as it would look crap. Clea coat is only apply to white when they have some pearl finish.

Only metalic colours get clearcoat treatment. Solid paint finishes don't have it. Oh, you'd be surprised that all Type Rs don't have clearcoats. Only the base models do.

I have seen at least 7 or 8 type r's being painted like a bumper for stone chips or damage etc... All of these were a base and laquer combination standard I know this because i worked with the panel beater and mixed the paint for them! Without laquer the white would fade and chip easy!

CW is not finished with clear coat, well until 1993 it was but after that it´s not covered with it ( according to spies & hecker database).
The car is painted now and looks like new :)

CW first came out on the NSXR, not 1993 and is ONLY a Type R colour. CW paint code is NH0.

Type Rs never ever had clear coat. But I'm not too sure about the black. Factory paint is always more durable and tougher than panel beaters due to higher temperature baking.
