wondering about peoples opinions, my brother swears by a good adjustable damping shock and spring combo whereas some swear by coilovers, any opinions?? i have been looking at Tein coilovers but like the look of tokico illumina shock (adjustable damping) with spoon prog spring...anyone got an opinion?LOL:nice:

ofcourse coilovers! Changing the springs etc is just a poor mans sussy mod. No questions asked.

ive been told a good fixed setup will be better than a good coilover setup, have i been lied to?:(

a good fixed setup is a not bad choice..........

i was looking into fitting Spoon fixed dampers + spoon progressive springs but for the price i have decided to go for Tein Superstreet coilovers with top mounts

the coilovers i can fine tune the ride height as well as having 16 point damping adjustment to tune the ride to how i want. also Tein coilovers can be rebuilt and serviced at about £50 per shock so if i do have any problems with them then they can easily be seen to :)

Im with Jugbugz here. The Spoon spring/damper combo for example is very good, a few laps in Tmus car at Brands and you could easily feel how much better than standard they are, however If you are going to be tracking the car a lot you will soon reach the limits of them, same as you would the oem setup. Coilovers are fully adjustable so as Steven says fine tuning will get the best out of the car. All depends on car usage, Spoon setup (£600ish) is excellent for the road and the odd trackday but for only a little bit more cash (£800ish) a decent coilover kit is possible.

the only problem with a non height-adjustable setup is that one side of your car will always be higher than the other, thats the only reason i prefer height adjustability.

if you don't know the first thing about how the suspension works & how to tune them get the fixed dampers, if you're ready to commit serious time & effort in learning the art of suspension tuning by all means get the fully adjustable units with rebound & compression damping adjusters.

The only real difference is with an adjustable coilover you are able to fine tune your ride heights. This is imperetive for a track car to be corner balanced (setting the weight balance corner to corner using different ride heights).
For the steet its good to be able to jack up the car in the winter, or make it lower or sit evenly.
Coilovers are a little higher maintenance than a damper+spring because you have to take care of the threads on the damper.

As far as performance differences between a coilover and damper+spring setup, that depends on how the quality and adjustability of the damper, the quality of the spring, ect.. and shouldn't be in this discussion. The only fundamental difference is
the height adjustability and this makes coilovers better.

I personally op for the Spoon option, because firstly with adjustable as said above I wouldn't know much about suspension setup, and I will have to spend a lot of time changing it and testing etc.

So therefore I figured I will be flaffing too much around the suspension, so went for fixed.

I am happy with my setup, road usable and better on track than standard. depends how much time you spend on track/road, and suspension knowledge and time.

I think what we're trying to say is, some spring combos are good, but you only have 1 setting to use compared to adjustable coilovers which have up to 100 settings depending on the amounts of clicks on the damper.

gice me a pm if you want to meet up, and you can compare the difference, in person, between the coilovers and oem suspension.

All depends on your budget and like allready told maybe start with less expensive with learning values like koni with either heith ajustable sets and on damper also, after few months you test all sethings you going to know wath you want and sell the koni for a better coilover like tein or else!

i always had coilovers, I like them because you can get the ride hight how u like it! also if ek9 is anything like the eg, on fixed the front is always lower!

Iv got tein master flex coilovers on mine, these were on it when i got it, and they feel 10x better than the d2 coilovers had on my eg, there not to harsh and the car sticks to the road like anything!
