Ive got the SPOON set, 1 for tranny and 1 for engine oil. I cant remember which is which but I think the longer one is for the tranny.

Shorter for Trans
Longer for Engine

that looks long...

Put the longer one inside the transmission and it's time for a rebuild as some poor sap discovered :p

.......which wasn't me... :drive:

I think thats the motor one, I have the spoon set and the transmission one is just a little stub magnet.
I found a picture for your reference.

Measure the magnet. If it's < 17mm, you can use it in your tranny, although that would be at the limit.

From the image, looks like a 10mm which is fine to use, although the reason for using a little 5mm stub is because the magnet is sitting right next to a moving part, hence you want to reduce any chance of the oil just washing the shavings off of it.

yeh, now that looks familiar, the longer one is meant for the engine oil for sure.

Mhmmmmm.

I've got a spare magnetic drain oil plug laying around. Im thinking wether to fit this to my Transmission at next MTF change?

The Magnet is 10mm long. You sure this is fine? :)

What is the size of proper magnetic transmission drain oil plugs?? 5mm you say??

Can you confirm :D

EDIT: If I stack more washers then it would be fine, surely?

you could probably put it in the engine since it's shorter than the Spoon one...

I've got one in the engine, this is the same one, spare :)

keep it.
i wouldn't put it in the trans if your not sure or if we could get a comfirmation...

Still no answer? Gonna change my tranny fluid tomorow....

10mm will fit in your tranny ok, but it is kinda the upper limit.

I know this post is dead, but do not stack washers like in that picture. I am an aviation mechanic and I can tell you every bolt or screw has a minimum thread protrusion. By stacking like in the picture only 2 1/2 - 3 threads will be in the case and maybe not the tranny, which means not enough threads are holding it in. Plus you are more likely to get leaks. Correct one is 6 threads with one washer.

Just an FYI get the right bolt before trying to jurry-rig your car, unless you really don't care about your car...but then again you wouldn't care about putting a magnet in there.
