cam choices SK2 pro or tuner 2?

*low cylinder filling at part throttle and low RPM. At WOT on a dyno run it'll undoubtedly be running pretty high VE throughout the revs, though I'm still surprised it needed timing pulling as I would expect VE to be lower than on the VTEC lobe. Perhaps the lower VE is offset by a higher DCR at low RPM vs a higher VE and lower DCR on VTEC? Bit like the difference between an NA and FI engine scaled down? Perhaps the knock at higher RPM isn't as detectable? Interesting stuff... :blinx:

I am surprised that you can get 95 to work well with such a high compression, slightly under cammed engine. When you say timing was pulled, pulled from what figure? I'd be very interested to compare the maps between that and a standard engine mapped for 99, but I don't expect you to share those.

Cheers for joining in though, always great to hear from people that are doing this stuff in practice and it's interesting to hear where theory doesn't get it right. :nice: :blinx:

Well here is Dyno sheet for setup we're discussing. It has Wiseco 12.5:1 pistons, everything else is stock(cams etc)

Rpm on sheet is out by 200rpm so imagine the curve moved back 200rpm. Rev limit is 8800.

You have many valid points but cylinder filling at low rpm's certainly is not low and it's at these low rpm's that the engine required most timing to be retarded in order to prevent detonation. Power wise it's making in around what I'd expect a good healthy b18c with stock pistons to make with same bolt on parts.(4-2-1 manifold and catback exhaust, catalytic converter still in place) it made one of the smoothest torque curves I've seen from one of these engines to date. Worth mentioning I guess this was tuned on 95 octane fuel.

Any skunk2 tuner 2's? And would I really need the skunk2 inlet manifold if it is a copy of the tyre r one anyway? So would the cams springs retainers and cam gears be enough along with a full system and map on a b18c6 ? Maybe a spoon breadbasket? Lol autocorrect I mean a spoon headgasket

b18c with 10 thou headskim and spoon headgasket. Skunk2 tuner 2 cams.

Interesting thank you very much! What's that you say "10 thou head skim" ?? also this setup I expected more gains. Or am I over estimating what gains a full system and map on its own would give

The cylinder head was skimmed 10thou to increase compression. The Dyno Dynamics aka "heart breaker dyno" doesn't give high numbers but given it's spec I think 215bhp was decent power for what it is.

No more to share on this bit Vtec6000? :(

Afraid not. There is no magic number anyway, where possible every engine is tuned to MBT but often we are knock limited so timing curves/tables are different for every engine.

Fair enough!

If you ever log any ignition plots on a HC tune I'd be very interested to have a look and see how the timing requirements move about, could be very insightful! :nice:

If you don't mind of course! :D

So vtec6000 what whp / bhp will a stock dc2 with ManI/decat/catback make on average? I fancy these tuner 2s but don't think there's ebough gains
