None of this
"i've got an ek3 and was wandering what engine to put init for some more horse power and more go and i've got £1500 to spend" lol

What i want to know is your opinion. DO NOT have a go at others for their opinion there is no right answer for this.

Tell me what you think is the BEST HONDA ENGINE !!!! And WHY ?????

I'll start..... :))

I honestly believe that one of the best engines honda made is the B16A2 My reasons for this:
Powerful engine that is very easy to insure.
These engines sell for about £400 - £700 making them very cheap for what they are. The fact that they are so common as well i believe reinforces the fact that they are one of the best honda engines.
They can take so much abuse.
Also the fact that there are so many parts availiable, ranging from very expensive to very cheap, means they are great for people like me who cannot afford to go all out and build a B20 but still want some rare parts and the option to BIG POWER if i wanted

Secondly i'd say the B16A purely as it started all that we love. :woot:

Let me know what you think guys/girls ????

I would say the B16A2 for its power and value for money, and the VTEC in them is sooo nice.

I would say the B16B secondly for its top end VTEC

If you're talking best, then it's the F20c. But if you're talking best value for money in a FWD civic that sees mainly road use then it's probably the B16a2 as you said - cheap to buy, cheap to insure, reliable.

Just what you think is the Best. any category really, Its your opinion so you ain't wrong lol.

for that sort of money i think you can sorce a B18C4

Don't know what you mean by this..... ^
just put what you think and why ?? money no object....

i still say B16A2 as its just best all round for everything.
this is my opinion if yours is different, POST IT. thats the idea of this. :angry2:

The S2000 engine in a civic? Not possible?? lol

Yes it is. Seen it done. Keep on topic

Il post again once i have decided lol. Alot of things to consider....:blinx:

I have never driven a F20 so cant compare.
H22 does have good power stats but i think it comes in at to much of a heavyweight.
EP3 K20's all seem to have flat spots from the ones i have driven.
B16A's i just cant get over that torqueless feeling up to Vtec.
B18CR are better allround but still a bit lacking in low-mid to me.
Yet to drive a B20V but im hoping it will be what im looking for.As they seem to get good torque curves. (not just peaks!)
The new FD2 K20 or Mugen RR K20 seem the best performers.
Or even the S2k's F22.

Too many to choose from :nerv:

F20C feels mega and revving to 9k standard is rad.

It does feel abit strangled though, like it wants to be more powerfull aha.

Honda engines to me mean reliable high RPM screamers. The B16B is a proper race bred engine, the oversquare geometry and high R/S ratio allows it to be run harder for longer than any other B series. It is IMO the best of the breed and truest to the Honda ethos. The B18, while producing more torque, will not stand up to the kind of abuse the B16B will, and the B20 is worse still in this regard.

The K20 is the best road engine, the square geometry and iVTEC system gives it great all round flexibility and offers massive tuning potential.

IMO its the S2000's gearing that makes it feel strangely slow , drove a AP2 before and after a j's 4.7FD and it was like a different car

very informative, didnt know some of that, good post.

This maybe a biast opinion but for me its the K20A with out a doubt. It's the perfect engine;

- Good low down torque

- Superb high end screamer

- Good fuel economy

- Massive tunning capability, every possible tunning method has been thrown at it and has shown such diversity

- Possibly the strongest engine honda made
Long live the K :drive:  :win:

x2

k20 + supercharger = ariel atom :)) off topic i kno lol

this is a hard choice between all the hondas i have driven, now being in the usa i dont have alot of the awesome motors you guys across the pond have (lucky sobs lol ) but i must say ive found ups and downs on the ones i have driven heres my top 3

s2k:
awesome power
good accel (to me)
good tuning base ( na/fi)
love the high rpm out of box (9k :) )

civic si (em1 b16a2 usdm)
good gas mileage
fun for the price
easy mantance
nice transmission
adapts well to minor bolt ons
good over all balance for a daily street car

06-today civic si (K20z3)
awesome torque
nice power
mod loving
awesome tranny

There are definately more to this but i chose the 3 motors i liked the most right from dealer, being that i work for a honda dealer i get to drive alot of cool cars, like the mugen si, gsr's s2ks rsxs pretty much anything we get in i get to drive. some people may disagree with me or agree idc, i would love to drive the b16b and see how that motor is, though by the feed back so far on this thread it looks like a good over all motor.

well thats my .2 cents
