Hello, i have a few stupid/basic questions im confused about.
So i want to get a honda civic EK (96-00) model. But there are so many variations in the models to chose from. Can someone please tell me the differences between:
- CXI
- CXI Sport
- GLI
- GLI 7th Gen
- Sport GLi EK
- Sport Vti EK
- Vti EK
- VTi-R

Which one should i get?
Thank you. :)

Most of those are variations on the EK shape Honda's 1996-2000. Hatchback, Coupe and Sedan.
Vti-R is a Honda Prelude.

The main differences will be body shape, engine. With a few of them having non vtec engines

The favoured car on the forum and the list is the EK4 Vti. Hatchback civic with a b16a2 vtec engine.

All depends what you want from the car?

i believe there are many variations in models in the USA and Australia.
in the uk, we have

- 1.4 civic (ej9)
- 1.4 civic sport
- 1.5 civic (ek3)
- 1.6 vti hatch(ek4)
- 1.6 vti saloon(ek4)

jap - 1.6 Civic Type R (ek9)

i think its just the interior trims and wheel trims, additional extras etc
hope this helps?
maybe some american members can help you shed some light regarding the different models.

They have some weird models in the US. Most of them crap.

Thankyou so much for this man, i am interested in a hatchback EK. Whats the best specs i could get stock? and which model provides this?

Also, i have one more stupid question to ask: How come some civics come with just the speedo gauge and not the gauge for revs?

Thank you again.

get a vti, or the jap equivalent the sir. I wouldn't wast your time with a d-series. Unless insurance is an issue

Well insurance does cost me allot because im only on my 2nd year driving... Al thought i don't want to base my decision on insurance...
So the vti has better specs then the other civics in the 6th gen?

yes apart from the ek9 the EK4 vti or sir is the best to go for. Im not sure if they label them the same in Australia though

So if the civic has a Vtec engine its good? :)

Also is the Vti the same as the Type-R?

Honda Civic Vti EK4 is the model. Is a very good car is stock condition but is easy to modify

Yes, but B16a2 is the engine in the EK4 and is the one you want. :nice:

Vti (EK4) is not the same as the Type R (EK9). Big differences in engine, suspension, interior etc

Thank you man, helped heaps, although confused me a little... Because you said the Vtech engine in the EK4 is the one i want. But then u said in the Type-R EK9 there is a big difference in engine? is this true, or did u just mean suspention, interior etc is different..?

EK9 is the best model, VTi is the 2nd best model.

EK9 has a B16b engine vs Ek4 b16a2 engine. Difference is not massive but the EK9 engine is higher revving and produces slightly more power.

Yes, I have a EK9. Love it.

Buy something you can afford. EK4 is quick and very enjoyable to drive, you can modify it easily and make some improvements over time. I don't know how much an EK4 costs in Australia or how common they are but they are great cars :nice:
Buy something to suit your needs, search the forum. There is loads of information.

Hi mate, I feel your pain!

I moved to Perth last July and it was like doing back to school again trying to get up to speed with Aussie hondas!

First up, the EK4 model here in OZ is badged as a vti-r, and as far as I can see it's pretty much the same as a uk spec civic vti but is called a vti-r and even shares the same B16A2 engine code.

There is sporty integers here too, but the most common one here is the VTI-r also, this engine looks almost identical to the b16 engine but has more torque, and the inlet mani looks to be upside wown compared to the civic b16 engine.
Strangely most of them are automatic, and I would imagine theynare total rubbish to drive.

Word of warning, do not buy an auto! There are loads of them here, way more than manual!:nono:

Also, if you are still finding it hard to find a reasonably priced vti-r, you should consider a civic vti, they usually have a D16Y8 or D16Y8, are single cam vtec and would be a good step closer to a vti-r.
They are pretty easy to upgrage to b-series engine too cos they already have the bigger brakes, and vtec firing already done to an extent.:nice:

I honestly dont know how i will find my vti-r. They are so hard to find here in australia... ffs
