Is it ok for me to install B16b ctr cams on my B16a w/o having type r valve springs(double springs)? I have no plans on increasing my rev limit pass 8200. Stock ECU only. TIA
I wouldnt do it or recommend it at all.
You could do it and be lucky and never face valve bounce but the only benifit of using b16b cams would be utiised when raising the rev limiter due to the profile of the cam shaft. As mentioned above b16b valve springs are dual and can take higher rpms and keep up. The single b16a springs where not designed to take much more than the intended rpm limit for the car, so you could suffer from valve bounce and then suffer from a mechanical failure i.e dropping a valve.
Also the valve spring retainers in the b16b are different and are intended for use of high rpms compared with the b16a retainers, this is why people normally use the whole b16b valve train when doing the swap.
Also with out correct mapping you wont see as good benefits as you would hope. You times will be out on both ignition and injector pulse.
My advise:
If your doing it, do it properly as you will only wish you had when it fails and will cost you alot more in the long run. you know im right
