Howdy all,

Could anyone explain to me why type r heads are better suited for turbo builds opposed to the b16a head?

From what I can gather the type r head flows slightly better, and the cams work alot better with boost?

Can anyone confirm this?

Lol X4, but the b16a head with CTR or ITR cams is still a good combo. I doubt you would really be able to tell the diffrence when boosted.

When boosted the cams are the biggest difference, ITC/CTR cams add about 30whp over standards b16 cams on a boosted Honda.

i got to doble check but i think its b18c4 on intake & b16 on exhaust anyone can confirm this

you get less "valve overlap" when going for big boost on the c4 cams.

It depends on the setup. On a budget setup with a cheap cast manifold and a fairly small Turbo the gsr b18c4 cams should work well. On something more efficient that runs less back pressure with a bigger Turbo the ctr or itr cams should pick up more power. The only real way to find out which cam will suit best is to test...

Thanks Rich :nice:

I'm going to be using a b18c head with my build for the reasons you said in the first post.

From the head you cannot see any big HP difference in forced induction.
You can help the exhaust system if you polish the exhaust side of the head.
If you plan to move on to the big HP levels (more than 500hp) you can port the intake side too.
the big difference that you can notice easy, should be from the cams.
But the cams must be chosen depends from the turbo manifold, engine, turbocharger etc.

you cannot use an agressive N/A cam on a B18 engine with log or cast manifold and a turbo with .63 A/R on the exhaust side. the back pressure on this combo is an HP eater.

In general,

B16 cams or GSR better should be use and works perfect with log/cast and sometimes with minirams, with turbochargers with .63A/R and max rev at 8.700, 2.5"-3" dp and exhaust etc.
ITR/CTR or bigger cams works well on ramhorn/top mount manifolds, bigger turbos .82A/R +, 9.000rpm+,3"-4" dp and axhaust etc
