Hello there I was just wondering if anyone could help me, my car has almost 150k on it, it drives fine and uses very little/no oil. I was just wondering would it be tired due to the mileage? And would I benefit from getting a lower mileage engine? Would I be down on power due to the high mileage? Opinions please

if the engine has been well looked after, it'll be 100%, most vtec engines are only getting broke in a 100000miles+ so yours should be clock work :p if its not broke, dont fix it....

If it drives fine and not a major oil burner there's probably no advantage of going for another of the same type engine.

put it on the dyno and itll give you a ruff idea on what the power is,2bh i wouldnt bother changing unless your upgrading

I swapped my 130k B16a which had been utterly bombproof for a 70k B16b with lots of rebuilt bits and uprated valvetrain and the sodding thing went bang four months later. Stick with what you know IMO.

you will know if your engine is dying. 150k is nothing. I've seen 400k KMS on a 2000 honda CRV which still pulls hard like a 100k CRV.

Keep it, maintain it, if anything starts to go, fix.

Like other people have said, if it's not given you trouble and is still running well with no oil lose, why change?

No point in changing like everyone said as long as they are oiled and watered they will run for many miles more than that. If your worried just give it a service and some TLC :)

On a related note, what are the tried and tested ways of raising the power of the b16a2?

I always thought that there were no differences in-between the a2 and the b but have recently learnt that there is more to it than just the cams, including main bearing sizes etc.

If you fit some b cams, a 2.5 dia exhaust and then have it all re-mapped what sort of power is possible over the standard '160'?

a ek9 inlet,2.5 exhaust, cams etc will get you around 180-190 with a map maybe more.

exactly wat i thought but refreshing it wouldnt hurt either

Thanks for all the help, it has gave me piece of mind. I fitted a mugen manifold and decat the other day and the car goes really well now, although it has started to feel sluggish down low in the rev range, seems to have a slight miss fire, so I changed the plugs and checked the leads and still a miss fire, changed the fuel filter and it's still miss firing, anyone got any other things I could try? Car will tick over fine, just driving off then into second at low to medium rpm and then it will feel like it's holding back, any help appreciated I'm puzzled as to what to try next

mmmmm? sorry dont know about the miss firing.

Mine is 138k now and mine appears to be a bit down in power. however never under estimate the wonders of a good, full service. and maybe even some injector cleaner treatment, just to clear out injectors and any co2 diposites.....that can easyily put a bit more life back in to the engine.

Il try that tomorro and see if that helps. Has any one any ideas on the miss fire?

My car was misfiring I put come injector cleaner through it and it seemed to do the job just make sure you get the right one :)

There all ok but I'm not 100% if this is true but I think with some of them if you put it in once then you need to put it in evertime you fill up please correct me if I'm wrong there :p

I'm not sure what's the best brand I'm sure someone here will know.
