i know theres probably atleast one person on here who used to have one! :p

basically, im thinking of taking a step up now performance wise and i really really love the ek9!

considered loads of different cars and im finding it hard to make a decision but the ek9 is wayy up high in my list!

been searching through the forum here for months (its great btw :nice:) but still cant find a definate answer to some Q's

firstly - am I daydreaming thinking ill get tidy insurance quotes at 21yo with a years no claims bonus?

also if someone could give me a list of insurers that list the ek9 that would be great.

another thing, do i have any chance of picking up a tidy RX for 6k-6.5k or is that a bit ambitious?? i get put off by cars by higher miles also but is mileage no problem with the little civic?

thanks very much!
think thats everything for now haha

- Josh

Hi
I have a really clean, grade 4, 2000 Rx, 80k for only £6,999. You would really be struggling to get a low mileage Rx for £6500, if you find one then make sure to check it thoroughly as it could have been a accident repaired car.
Good luck, Duncan

welcome to the forum, i wish i could answer your questions but i am from USA sorry...

Reckon your quotes will be in between the 1500 - 2000 mark from what I've read here, but trust me mate, it'd be worth it if you can afford it. Not sure exactly which insurers list the EK9, I just did a search on Cheap UK Car insurance and home insurance quotes comparison from Confused.com. and found some good prices there. There's even a few insurers that visit this forum regularly, Sky Insurance is one, cant remember the other

I really wouldn't worry too much about mileage on these cars, or most Honda's for that matter - If the engine has been well looked after its reliability is pretty much unquestionable. I think mileage is concentrated upon far too often.

Anyways, welcome to the forum mate!

mileage is important for performance though, in my experience at about 110+ thousand miles usually compression starts to fall off a bit due to either valve guide seals or piston rings... its not a MAJOR performance reducer but it could be...

cheers for the replys lads :)

what age/condition ek9 would i be able to get my hands on for 6k then? (although i would be tempted to save a bit more for an rx as i love the front end)

there a common faults thread anyone can direct me too? or anything i should look out for? gearbox/synchro's? do they use oil as some ep3's supposedly can?

thanks vv.much :)

Yes if driven hard they usually use some oil. And you are correct about the synchro's. You will have to drive it hard and change gear quicky to check them.
About the only other thing to check for (apart from the obvious) is accident damage. Alot of cheap accident cars have come over from Japan.
Good luck Duncan

cheers for the reply dunk (took me a while to post that haha) anything else i should look for?

should i be as scared of buying an import as i am? :( havnt had an import before and im really worried about taking the plunge, mileage cant really be proved, nor how well the cars been serviced etc.

am i being paranoid? been looking at ep3's a bit and im tempted by one because i know they can come with fsh and receipts etc.

help :angry2: haha

cheers!! Josh

In Japan they generally dont have a service history. They are a very honest nation everyone looks after their cars and it is assumed a second hand car will have been serviced, so why prove it. Oh and clocking is virtually unheard of in Japan.
In the UK however it is assumed a car will be used and abused and never serviced and clocked. Hence the reason we are obsessed with service history in the west.
If Jap cars were a bad bet i wouldn't have used my own money to buy about 180 of them. Oh and about 60 odd were ek9's :D:D.
Generally your best bet is to find out the Jap auction grade, get all the import docs, look for a standard car and take someone with you. Try to look at several to get a good idea of a good one, against a bad one.
Even if mine are too dear for you i would be happy to just show you round the 3 i have and point out all the bits to check. Also give you a good bench mark to compare to.
Thanks Duncan (07867 900543) Just off of J12 M4.

thats a really nice post matey and thankyou very much for that offer! really appreciated, its good to know that there are tidy people out there in the car industry :)

im down in s.wales so its a fair drive to you but i will definatley keep it in mind when i get closer to changing, just waiting to get back from my holiday which is coming up fairly shortly and then its a case of selling my car/ trading in and moving on.. i would really love an ek9 so perhaps i shouldnt worry so much and just give one a go :)

cheers matey

I flew down from Edinburgh to buy my EK9 from duncan. I only saw the pictures on his website so i think it was a bit off a risk, but with his reputation on here i decided to take the risk. And haven't been disappointed, Love my EK.

If you want a good one mate type-r-dunk is your best bet, everyone will tell u that

im pretty sure the Rx doesnt have a different bumper..
