Hi people I can't seem to find this answer.

Forgetting grip levels I want to know sidewalls.

I love the R888's but cost is ridiculous now.

I have seen the R1R's up close and felt the sidewall before fitting. They are identical to the R888 very stiff very thick and chunky! Perfect!

What are the AD08 sidewalls like? They are much more suited to the driving i do now but I want the stiff sidewall still.

Thanks in advance

I have both but yet to try the ad08s
The R1Rs seemed stiff on my clio. Didn't seem to squirm at all under breaking or turning.

Yeah I don't want to use the R1R's, it's either the AD08's or I cough up for R888's again.

In 16" and 17" the ad08s seem to have a stiff sidewall

I have compared the R1R and AD08s in 15" and the R1R has a noticeably stiffer sidewall. The AD08s will grip very well and last longer but they do have a softer sidewall

Great thanks. Looks like I will be putting R888's on again then. I love them too much!

Thought about Kumho V70A's. Tyre has been recommended to me by several folk. Haven't seen much of a write up on here about them but I've only heard good things about them elsewhere.

Ordered a set to go to the Nurburgring with. The sidewall is very stiff :nice:

I would use them on the rear but for me they wear to quickly on the front especially on the track. A048 or Dunlop direzza would be a better option for the front imo

Ad08 are the tyre of choice for most people that have to use a road tyre for curcuit racing, superb grip in the dry & reasonable in the wet, R888 are very expensive now but have better wet grip if you go for the super soft, my choice is the yoko Prada spec2 at only £45 a tyre they are a good compromise of grip versus cost.

What is the advantages of a stiffer sidewall over softer??

I was gonna give Federal RSRs a try but noticed the price of Advan Neova AD08s isnt that much more and considering trying them instead.

RSR are a better track tyre I would say. Certainly the MSA seem to think so.

At a basic level, with a soft sidewall the car will move about on the flex of the tyre which makes it all feel a bit squirmy and vague underneath you. There's obviously more to it than that but that's the noticeable bit.

I run Rsr on my integra, there great on track dry and wet. Loads of grip and the wear on them is good too! There also cheaper than the yokos and r888's!
I want to try advans myself since everyone raves about them but there so costly!

So would that mean im better off with a stiffer sidewall too since ill be running Wilwood 4pots with 309mm discs??

I take it the RSR has the stiffer sidwwall??

Stiffer sidewalls feel better, more responsive, better stability yada yada.

Disadvantage is that they offer less grip on camber challenged cars, and they ride a bit hard.

Soft sidewalls proportion load more evenly over the contact patch where stiff sidewalls will load the inner edge more (much the same as stiff vs soft suspension). When the suspension has poor camber control (MacPherson struts / solid beams etc) the softer sidewalls improve grip but at the expense of all the above merits.

Double wishboned cars like ours have much better camber control so don't need the cushioning effect of soft walls so stiff walls perform much better.

Cheers that helps alot Kozy.

Does anyone know whether the Federal RSRs are stiffer than Advan AD08s then??

yep ive had both fitted by the same guy - the rsrs walls are mega stiff he said

iv just literally come from r1rs to ad08 but in 15`s and ad08s have my vote now much more superior tyre . apart from needing to warm up a fair bit very good tyre especially for money r1r`s are a soft compound but ad08s are medium-hardish
