Hi all,

just wondering if anyone has put on a 98 spec itr gearbox on a b16b?

If so how does it drive with the closer ratios?

Thanks

Dipesh

There nice for the first 3 gears but I don't like the big drop in revs shifting up to 4th. 96spec teg box has same gear ratio's and same diff afaik as the s4c ek9 box

My mate has recently done a B18CR conversion in a CRX with the 98spec box and it is dam good!! Not sure how it would work on B16B but in that it rips through the gears! So much low down response especially in 3rd gear.

Put it this way we did a test low revs in 3rd with my car and he pulled alot on me! Through the gears though they are very similar, in fact i seem to have the edge. But for drivability, wow!

I have a question about the 98 spec box, as far as i know its the exact same as the UKDM ITR S80 box.

My actual question about it is about the driveshafts - i know the spindles on a 98spec take are for 36mm driveshafts? does this have any affect on the gearbox side of things.

E.g. could you use the 98 Spec B18C + Gearbox and keep the standard EK9 shafts & spindles or would you have to use 98spec shafts and upgrade the spindles?

I've only ever done / seen swaps with 96 spec or B18C6

i'm led to believe the b18c6 is the exact same engine/gearbox as the 98spec anyway with a 6 stamped on it and the reason it makes less power is because of the crap 4-2-1 mani with 2.25" collector + the Uk ECU map.

When i had a b18c6 i used a full 2.5" system and a 4-1 mani with 2.5" collector & JDM ECU i made 209bhp (so basically reverting back to JDM Spec with better flowing mods gave my b18c6 alot greater power than standard 187bhp.)

When i get an EK9 i would actually consider another B18C6 as its a fantastic engine and if it is the same as a 98 spec then you could only be bothered by the number 6 stamped on it.

Ok first off it's only the JDM 98+ ITR that has the outer 36mm cv joint on it's driveshafts not UK or US version, the inner gearbox cv joint of the shaft is same as other B series shafts so yes you can use ek9 shafts in a 98spec s80 ITR box:nice:

+1! With a b18c 98 spec is very very good, but with a b16 you would have problem with 4th.

Since i am using a b18c 98 spec and i used a 96 spec i believe the best combo is a 98 spec tranny with 4th gear of the 96 spec.

Yes you can (both of them)!

Cheers for that guys !!

Now i know if i'm looking for an engine i'd be buying either a B18C6 or 98 Spec B18C and have no issues !!

would b18c with s4c lsd box be good??

Thats what im running and yes its really good. Its better for traction anyway and MPG. And more then enough grunt to get you up and going from low revs.

I think that the general consensus is that the S4C CTR box is a really good all rounder.
If you want better acceleration a 4.9FD in an S4C would probably be better than swapping your s4c for a s80 ITR box.
All really depends on if your car is a daily driver or track car IMO.

Mine is a daily drive.

4.9FD is something I think I'll look into rather then buying a gearbox blind.
