96spec S80 gearbox with 5.1 final drive

I have a jordan was (jrdn92's)

I've recently bought a 96SPEC S80 gearbox for it with the standard 4.4 final drive and I'm looking to put the
M-factory 5.1 final drive into it. I'm just wondering if anyone has done this or has any experience of how much difference they make to driveability and performance

5.1 will be too short especially on a 96 spec box imo.
 
Is it a rally car? That's about the only application where a 5.1 makes sense.

Not a rally car unfortunately was intending on doing a good few trackdays round knockhill and possibly 10 of the best this year I'm not overly fussed on the impact on fuel ect just want to get maximum potential out the gearbox for acceleration
 
Stick an mfactory gearset in 3+4+5, best mod I did to my gearbox, 78 -3rd 99 -4th 126 -5th and it was just about bearable on the roads. Have a play about with their gear calculator.
 
If you want something a bit more advanced than the Mfactory gear calc, mine is here and will tell you how much faster you can expect to be with various changes.

Check out the lead chart for the distance between two cars over a 1/4 mile. :nice:

Weigh up the gains in acceleration against the costs, driveability, comfort etc.

Ah I've just had a 5.1 fd fitted on an S4C box although I won't be able to test it out for at least a month next time I was thinking an S80 box with shorter 3rd,4th & 5th luckily mine's not for the road so no need to worry about cruising revs
 
got a 5,4 straight cut finaldrive on a non lsd s4c. i love how i now can beat the **** out of the car, and dont need to go 200mph+ for it to be fun :) if you need the car as a daily and drive on the highway all the time, its a bit thirsty though :p
