Hi people,

Trying to get to the bottom of our little problem with our EP3

What I want to know is this, your set up and wether you experience the occasional hesitation/stuttering at low rpms normally about 2-3000rpm light throttle.

My set up

OEM air box (hondata mod) K&N filter
Stock manifold
Stock cat
Magnet b pipe
Spoon style back box

Regularly experience hesitation normally when cold and or wet. I find its worse when exhaust system is not hot.

Thanks in advance

As mentioned before I know tps are very unreliable in these.
Dunx

In my kswap it does this, but i have problems with my o2 sensor and it hasnt been mapped yet so ive always thought it was due to that..

Is it stuttering when you're rolling in gear slowly from time to time? Or when you're in traffic and your hovering on the gas?

What is the standard exhaust size for an ep3? I have just learned the Magnex b pipe is only 51mm!

More when I come off the throttle and go back on. Under normal driving conditions.

I have changed my O2 sensor it made zero difference.

Checked for that. It's sounding quite common finding threads on DC5 and EP3's with no fix. That why I wondered on the exhaust front.

Perhaps a change in exhaust may smooth or shift it slightly...

^ this sort of thing used to happen on my s2k aswell.
Your driving along using next to no throttle, you reach a section were you come off then on slightly and it doesn't like it and bounces about abit?

Spot on! Some times it's very frequent other time could go days with out doing it. :angry2:

How odd that it applies to all 2.0 vtec.

guess it just happens to these engines... hasn't bothered me really tbh. my car is a bitch to drive on the road anyways lol

Very... Was yours modified at all?

It happened from stock.
I then changed intake and exhaust and made no difference to the symptoms.
Also changed rear O2 sensor but that was for another issue. Didn't resolve the problem you have.

you 100% sure its not a vacuum problem. my dad's vectra (yes i know its not a honda or even close) had the exact same problems you where having, changed sensors, plugs, loads of things. Turned out to be a vacuum problem from the fuel system.. just a thought.

How track cars should be!

Very interesting....So spending a load of cash on a new exhaust and intake isn't going to change it....

I think to many are having similar issues for it to be a vacuum problem with the fuel system. How would I check this though?

Mine was more at 2krpm than 3k. Was usually fine closer to 3k. I'm not sure what it could be, I'm sure I had no vac leaks either but could be wrong.

If it's been modified then I'm thinking down the lines that it needs tuning now. I'd imagine the slightest change to the engines VE will cause problems as the engine has been tuned by the intake cam angle as well. I could be wrong though. See what "Vtec6000" thinks about this statement as he's the pro tuner on here. It may just be running lean in a certain area... From what I know they're quite sensitive engines (hence why they make so much POWAAAA).

Both mine and chi k swaps have this

Only at low rpm around 1-2 as soon as you hit the throttle , it hesitates for 1-2 secs before pickin up

Both our cars tuned by Paul at TDI north

That's a tuning issue, i've fixed it on a good few K series.
