Thought I would do a write up on a recent mapping session with Will, aka ‘EK9Turbo’ at RDT near Doncaster.

Drove a fair old way to get there. My EK9 is a 1998 almost standard 1600 with 95k miles on it. It runs a JDM 4-1 manifold with Mugen twin loop utilising the standard JDM cat. Only other mod is a K and N filter. Although its a high mileage car its always been well looked after mechanically. I had fresh Mobil1 0 -40 oil and fresh Landrover MTF94 in the box.

First off Will checked the tyre pressures then put the car on the DynoJet to check car out. Four or 5 runs demonstrated the repeatability in various gears and we had our baseline measurement to me then off to his workshop.

Will then went through a number of things what he called a pre dyno health check. Engine compression, Then valve gap adjustment showed I had a couple of tight ones and a couple of loose ones. Nothing too far out of spec So all sorted fresh set of plugs and mechanical Ignition timing set He then installed my S300 which was a Limited Edition S300 OBD2a so no conversion harness required either. Will then proceeded to wire in a good earth and power source for the wideband all very professionally done. Checked tyre pressures were at the pressure I use. Even fixed a leak on my VTEC solenoid. He installed a good base map that he has developed for the EK9 and fitted a temp Air Fuel ratio gauge to the car. Then we headed back to the Dyno

Spent the best part of 3 hours on the DynoJet with Will doing lots of runs and steady state tuning across the whole rpm range. I said I wanted a good mid range and not chase big numbers. Been there done that.

Drove the car back to the workshop to check it all over again and the transformation was truly unbelievable. The crispness of the engine is sublime. The throttle roll on roll off is so smooth. The car pulls like a train. Acceleration through the gears is transformational. The car makes power from much lower down than it ever did before. I can honestly say he has transformed the characteristics of the engine in the best possible way.

I have personal experience of 3 other Mappers in the UK and I also own a fully tuned B18C6 in a CRX running Omex 600 engine management and can honestly say this was the best experience I have ever had in this field.

I cant recommend Will highly enough I had a round trip of 350 miles finished driving back through the snow and still say it was worth every penny.

Results were 170 whp and 113 lb/tq

Graph below I used one that compares mine with a good completely standard EK9 that Will mapped previously with a Hondata S300 to show the improvements.

:nice:
Nice numbers there! Very nice!

can i be cheeky and ask how much it cost? i live not to far from there and want my car remapping for my modifications cheers

Thanks guys and no problem re price at all..

Baseline measurement, a power run I guess £40

Pre Dyno Health check £60 I again thought this was well worth the money he did do a lot of work and advised me on a couple of things and fixed several. I was satisfied that the engine was healthy and good to go on the Dyno.

His hourly mapping rate is £85 an hour.

Hope that helps you decide.

Oh Will can be contacted on
Sales@race-dyno-tuning.com

This is his new business email address.

will is a good lad . known him for nearly 2 years now and was down when haribo got his car mapped . my car does down this week for him to carry out work on . cant wait :p

Great write up and numbers mate! :) I have been wanting to go down to see Will for ages, will defo in the not too distant future! :)

J700OCK you one of the guys going down the itb's route. Will said he had a couple of customers coming soon for Hondata S300 instal and mapping using itb's. Didnt say who though.

I think thats my next mod to try and help the mid range a bit more but will wait and see how others get on and their feedback. I like mine as it is at the minute and don't want to open up the engine this time. Just see how we get on with carefull mods and good S300 mapping.

Any questions just ask guys.

What you having done?

Why does he compare your car to another car that who knows what temperature or condition it was dyno'd in? Why not compare it to a base run of your car on the same day?

Hi Will didn't pick the graph at al, in fact I picked it as I wanted to see mine compared to a good standard car that Will spent a fare bit of time on developing a stock EK9 base map. It was for illustration purposes only.

Hi Guys, sorry I havent been on much alately, just mega busy all the time. Moray, was good to meet you. 16" regas look very cool by the way. :nice: :nice:

Hi Blinx, I was asked to, also if you have a look at the graph youll see ALL run conditions/deails below :nice: And yes we did compare before/after of course. And had gains across the board. Not huge, which is to be expected as we didnt change anything else and the vehicle is still equipped with stock intake and intake manifold. 15hp midrange gain, then 3-5everywhere else except peak of 2hp gain. Transient response of the engine was (as usual) improved dramatically and with intensive steady state tuning the throttle will feel super smooth like silk to roll onto and off of (which is the norm :woot:)

Don't get me wrong those are fantastic numbers for such a mild car, i just often see this sort of thing in comparisons and never understood why, if the car is there and already on the dyno wouldn't it be better to just have the baseline of the same car? Especially knowing how some of these b16b's from japan can have cams already or even a stroker kit without anybody ever knowing, well actually you would know since your the tuner, you'd see the additional fuel needed etc... Anyway sorry if i cam off harsh, rough night ;)

nah Blinx its cool. as said he has the before/after but wanted a comparison with a totallt stock one to see what power his mods got him :nice:

Sounds like another TOP job as always buddy!

Prob going to nip over next week mate!:secret:
