well my car has developed a wierd knock basicly when i turn left then when i put the wheel strait again i get a knock... does it occasionally when i brake too and also when i accelerate somtimes...

It also does it when the car is stoped when the engine is cut so no PAS... just turn the wheel slightly untill it becomes stiff then let go and knock again ...

i've looked under the car and cant seem to see anything seen as you guys know allot more about Ek's than me i thaught i'd give it a shot to help point me in the right direction

I'm thinking ball joints ...

Car has D2 coilies and d2 front camber arms....

hope you can help me lol thanks in advance

No offense, but if you can't see it yourself then put it to a garage for them to check out

Knocks and rattles etc are hard to diagnose over the internet :nice:

garages wont touch it mate thats why i'm asking ...

i've had ball joints go before on old cars found it on my own but with this im a bit stumped lol

it's not enough to just look under the car

Jack up the front end with both wheels off the ground, grab the front wheels one at a time and try and rock them with your hands at 9 and 3 then again at 12 and 6

This is a good way for identifying worn balljoints, if it's linked to steering then could be a bad track rod inner or outer

could be a number of things! Ball joint, worn bushes, track rod end! why wont the garage touch it?

yeah, why wont the garage touch it?

Its their job! Come on... I guess "lazy" is not just in the USA. lol

the garages around me wont touch it because it's been modified ...

Bushes have 5k on them .... so doubt its that i've tried wigeling the front wheels like said and well dont seem to move at all even tried to move the ball joints them selves dont move really

maybe a track rod end because it does it when i brake too but it's wierd because it knocks when the car is switched off and no PAS on or anything just have to move the steering slightly and let go and i get a knock i supose i'l have to have a proper look at it all at the weekend

This or the bushes.

Are your wheel nuts tight?

hmm hope it's not bushes they are the energy after market ones ...

and bloody hope they are tight i tightend them hard enough when putting the one wheel back on so hopefully lmfao il go check that now ...

how can i check if its the ARB link ?

Hard problem to diagnose over the net , but does the knock be louder with the engine off? Loose steering? May be play in the steering rack from the pinion , common fault , you can adjust this easily with some hand tools

loose urm tiny bit not allot got about 5mm play when car is switched off before its hard ... but yeh bit louder when engines off ..

how do you adjust it though ?

and would it knock under breaking and hard accel ?

Adjustment is by a 40mm nut on the rack by where the steering shaft meets , you will need a 40mm ring end spanner to loosen this , tighten the inner 14mm bolt to when it meets resistance , then back it off roughly 25degrees , tighten the 40mm locknut.

It will knock on bumpy ground , and on hard acceleration/deceleration only if the suspension has good travel tho.

sounds like either your inner or outer track rod ends are worn if its knocking when your turning the wheel when stationary? end of the day the car is at least 10 years old and these will wear out eventually?

oh i know its just finding whats wrong thats the problem ....

i'm still learning with the ek though only had it 1 month
