I have just found a bit of rust on my wheel arch.
How can I tell if its just surface rust?
Can it be easily repaired by myself or is it best to take it to a professional?

Thanks

just give it a rub of fine sand paper and see does it turn silver , if it does fast its only very light surface. looks light to be honest. get a spray can of cw white made up and spray it yourself.

If I was you I would spray some Waxoil over it. Also do the inside.

Cheers for the replies. I will give it a go over the weekend.

Anyone know where I can get a custom paint can made up from?

**EDIT** Just found out that Halfords do custom spray cans.

I actually bought mine online at Paints4u last year to do my centre wheel caps and that was spot on! :)

as said mate best thing to do after sanding is spray waxoil on it and underseal car i used to do this to my civics twice a year and never got a spot of rust :D

Update:

I have sanded off all the rust and sprayed some waxoyl on it. Then I resprayed it in CW paint.

You can paint over the top of stone chip paint so maybe you can do waxoil as wel??

Rust remover / converter is only any good if you have got rid of 99% of the rust first or it will still be lumpy converted rust left behind.

You put paint on top of the Waxoyl? Didn't think that was possible, didn't it react or crack?

Not sure if you can do that but nothing has reacted or happened. I left it for 24 hours between sprays and it feels fine. I will give it a few weeks and see what happens.
