What to buy for a b16b engine rebuild

Well, the time I didn't want to face is here, my engine needs a rebuild, so I'd like to know what's the complete set of parts that I need to buy, I'm thinking of:

1) Spoon Stroker Kit 1.8L (Spoon 1.8L Stroker Kit for B16B)
2) ITR ECU P73-003 (or alike)
3) Complete set of gaskets and seals

But that leaves me with some questions:

1) the Spoon Stroker kit listing doesn't mention including Rod bearing, Main bearing and Thrust washer, does anyone knows if it comes with them?
2) I presume this ecu would be just fine and cheap (~$300)
3) Would be necessary to change Oil and Water pump, why?
4) Would I need to change the belts? I change my timing belt exactly one year ago and the others 3 months ago.
5) Would I need to change the valve guides? I assume the complete gasket kit comes with valve covers as well.

Is there anything I miss in the list?

Thanks a lot :nice:

Enrique

On the other hand, what if instead of buying a spoon stroker kit I just buy the OEM internals of a ITR DC2, I know spoon stroker kit is OEM parts more balanced, any recomendations?

Enrique

Stock ECU will fuel ok even with stroked out B16B.(although i would get a mappable ECU to get a better tune)

ITR internals would be just fine/infact the same as spoon stroker kit.

If your belts are fine and you only changed them 1 years ago, there is no need to change as they will be fine, although belts arent really expensive.... £20-£30 each.

u mite as well do the water pump an oil pump if your goin as far as rebuildin the engine.

1. Im not sure, you should email inlinefour and find out.
2. correct, just make sure if you get an ITR ecu get one without an immobiliser
3. did you change your water pump when you did your timing belt? if so then just reuse it, depending on the reason you NEED this rebuild you may want to buy a new oil pump.
4. no
5. no but consider changing the valve guide seals and do a 3 angle valve job.

Hi, pardon my ignorance, but with an ECU without inmobiliser you mean, an ECU without the speed limit cut at 180kms/h ?? and anything about using a spoon stroker versus OEM ITR parts ??

No difference with spoon stroker and ITR oem parts, honestly just get whichever is cheaper, you may soon find out that the spoon stroker kit is cheaper as the ITR crank alone cost $1000 USD!!

About the immobilizer that is not what i mean, some ITR ecu have Immobilizer built in so the ECU will ONLY work on the ITR, rvm knows more about this, hopefully he will post.

its only uk spec itr's that come wit immobilzer the jdm 96spec def dont come wit one...not so sure bout the 98 spec tho.

They come from the same cast/forge - no doubt there, but the selective balancing they go through is worth the small premium, especially when you consider how much a dynamic balancing can cost.

Unfornately the guys at inlinefour says that the spoon stroker kit is no longer in production, what are the alternatives now? :nono: :(

OEM Type-R DC2

Hi ellanosv, binrging this thread alive....
Did you rebuild your motor? Which way did you go, spoon stroker kit or the OEM ITR DC2 parts.
How was the result of the motor being stroked.
Im thinking on going this way too.

Let us know

Unlickily I still haven't... still putting the money together, I'm at 50% of it now, if I see myself not reaching the necessary amount, I'm just staying at 1.6L oversized :(

[UPDATE]
I'm too anxious about this, I think I will buy the 1.6L OEM oversized .25, plus a thinner head gasket, what do you guys think?

Also, Toda?:secret:

The only Toda Stroker kit i have seen is for the b16a and NOT the b16b.

Jun on the other hand does have one but the price is nothing short of outrageous at $4000-6000 usd! At this point a b18c crank/rods/pistons is the only feasible option for 99% of Honda enthusiasts.

But hell since were talking about it Eagle does make a b18c crank and BC does make a stroker kit for the b18c that will fit in the b16b also but as i said above At this point a b18c crank/rods/pistons is the only feasible option for 99% of Honda enthusiasts who want to stroke there b16b and stay NA....
