i was just woundering the above. im currently running standard air box with hks filter. at the moment im trying out a mitsumoto whales p***s defently made a better vtec sound. however i noticed that it suffers with a bit of heat soak when moving of after traffic jams ect. i would like to know the following.

what setup are you runing
pictures if possiable
what gains did you make if you dyno'd ect

if you could answer the following i would be very grateful

thanks

I am running a BMC CDA and as you can see i have made the rest up with various connectors, neopreme pipeing and aluminium tubing. You can use this setup with the oem intake pipe.

Gives a nice note, but not as loud your typical open cone. Great throttle response in hot weather so it overts heat soak effectively.

Im running the AEM v2 best intake out there . Have a look at my build thread for pictures and dyno print out .

Only thing that worries me on the aem v range is were the one in the bumper, easy to suck up a puddle and cause engine damage. i was running a aem induction on my dc5 good peice of kit but as i said the puddle thing puts me off.
can u get any plates made i.ie to give it more protection from outside weather. ?

you can get a hydro cover for them, in theory it stops them collecting water. IMO an enclosed filter with a cold air feed will always be more effective and show better gains than a long/short arm to filter setup. The whole heak soak thing is a bit of a myth to me as i only really noticed it on my old civic in really hot days in traffic, just get a cold air feed for the J's intake and enjoy the noise it makes! :D

Can list a few. B16A and B18CR

-Basic open KnN cone short ram. Was OK but suffered heat soak, made tones of noise.

-Then bough a new AEM V2. Was actualy worse, the car was flatter up top end. Was quieter than the basic cone. Also suffered from heat soak.

- Back to Standard EG6 airbox with innards removed, KnN pannel filter and a cold air feed. Was much better than either cone intake. Smoother pull into vtec and torque stayed pulling throughout the rev range.

-Now fitted a genuin Mugen carbon airbox and is even better. Build quality Is far beyond any other intake on the market. Only step up is throttle bodies. Or similar airbox setup. (for road and track)

Im using j,s intake with cold air feed. Love it , only other one Id would change for is a mugen ,

Ive got a 3" custom intake similar to the AEM V2 sounds good but will be changing it in the future

Have had quite a few over years, best would definitely be the mugen airbox. Noticeable gains all round but never had it dyno'd unfortunately.

rubbish, they sound good but defo nowhere near the best. im running a custom 3inch system with velocity stack and cold air feed via carbon duct and ill get a heatsheild made up for it mugen is best out there off the shelf

i am running the standard airbox stripped, with spoon elbow and a air duct.. i cant complain. but then i havnt had others to compare it too.

Running a password jdm, carbon intake, makes an awesome noise

Yet to find out if it adds power, certainly feels better than oem

I'm running a V2 on my Jordan and I was very impressed with it, definetely picks up better lower down the rev range. as for the puddle problem you would probably need to submerge most of the filter in a puddle to kill it. mine gets driven every day in all weather conditions and I've not had a problem.

Running a oem dc2 airbox with resonator removed and a cold air feed put in.. Works well as it doesnt suck up hot air and also gives a deep tone because the resonator is removed

Were would I get a custom intake made up. I want it true with my tb, I'm guessing that would get maximum induction gains, made properly. How much would a custom intake be?

Would anyone who hasn't had a custom intake done, would you rather a named brand over custom?
