Video editing software

Hi guys and gal's
looking a video editing software to trim, splice some gopro vids ive good so was wondering what you's are using, whats good and what to stay away from. I don't want one that's going to put aa banner in the video.
Im using a windows 8 system :angry: I know not ideal!!
 
I've only ever used windows movie maker, takes and age to prepare the video for editing though.

All video editing software is extreamly time consuming and CPU taxing. I thought that GoPro had its own free software for making quick movies...

Yea it does but it wont download onto my Windows 8 laptop. Its for XP and W7

You are not missing anything...trust me.

Adobe Premiere Elements 11 they have a free trial version too.
 
Movie maker is painfully slow. I've used it myself to test out GoPro footage but I'm not aware of any reasonable alternatives that are free.
