Vehicle Speed Sensor - which one?

Hi All,

It looks like the vehicle speed sensor's failed on my EK9 (removed suspect speed converter chip and the speedo still not working) so I phoned my local Honda dealer for price and availability of a new one.

The bloke on the phone looked the part up and said there are 2 options listed, Denso and Matsushita. They're roughly the same price (£173.79 +VAT for the Denso, or £162.87 +VAT for the Matsushita) but does anyone know which I should go for? It's a bit dark after work to be getting the old one off the car to check what's on there.

Cheers,
Alex

Id be looking for a second hand one mate, will be a good bit cheaper. Try Dunx or Tegiwa

Funny I was just talking to the missus about that.

TBH I'd prefer just to get a new one, then it rules that part out of any further issue with the speedo. Ebay converter chips are more likely to fail than the sensor, so if I know that's good then it's easier to troubleshoot :)

Cheers,
Alex

Your choice mate, not often I see them go faulty though....

No, it surprised me too, but I removed the converter chip and rewired the loom straight back to the sensor and nothing from the speedo...

Did you check the plug connector at speed sensor itself? might be loose or water got in...

where are you based ? if near manchester welcome to try 1 i have to see if vss at fault or not

It WILL be the VSS.... I had to change mine not long ago. Got a 2nd hand one off Tegiwa for about £40 if my memory serves me well. I just don't see the point in a brand new one especially at that price

Yep, it's been on and off a few times, clicks in nicely each time and the contacts are nice and clean, no water or oil/dirt.

see if someone nearby is kind enough to let you try 1 they have

Time for a replacement so i guess...

Yep, seems like it.

So - who's got a Denso sensor, and who's got a Matsushita, and do we know if there is there any difference?

Cheers,
Alex

any green dirt in the plug?
i had that problem in mine nd cleaned it out and it worked fine after

as mentioned it looks pretty clean but as i'm going to have to remove the sensor anyway to see what make it is (assuming it's written on there) i'll have a closer look.

cheers,
Alex

It was the sensor that was broken. I ordered the Denso sensor and fitted it on Saturday, quick test with the speedo reading in KMs, wired the converter back in and it's all good :)

Could anyone tell me where this sensor is? Looks like mines going a bit faulty and may need a clean.
