Hi,

i am after a bit of info on Twin Plated Clutch's..

I asked on toyotagtturbo.com about them and got told that the cheapest for the glanza off the shelf is £1000 :wow:

Are they for racing use and not really for street use ?

It makes a noise between each gear change and changing at low revs can be awquard.. it rattles when i push the clutch in and if i rev it a bit with the clutch down I.E t rev match it makes a werring noise.. ?? this all noraml for a twin Plated clutch ?

I have found changing really fast and at high RPM it is the smoothest clutch i've ever owned but anything low or biting the clutch in traffic it vibrates like a Mother F**ker

any info on the use / operation / Noise would be much appreciated.

This for a glanza but surely all twin plated clutchs operate the same way and have the same characteristics..

thanking you in advance.

I love the noise they make. I bought a carbinetic one for my k20 cant wait to get it in and get used to it! I had an exedy in my glanza and it was perfect.

The exedy didnt it was only stage 2. I havent fitted the carbonetic clutch yet mate.

Maybe just me but I couldn't drive in public with my clutch sounding like that!!^^^^ haha

Twin plate clutches arnt really ment for the road, on a stage they are perfect but at road speed and in traffic they are noisey and a pain to use, certainly in a 285bhp n/a 205 anyway!

Twin plate clutches are horrible for road driving. and cost a fortune.

had one before on my Civic, was right noisy and bite took some getting used to. No good for hill starts lol. Brilliant clutch. Eventually striped the splines on it (about 20k old)

Iv now changes to a single plate Helix 6-Puk and it works fine. Less than half the price and does the job.

I can only imagine it's great fun at speed but at the same time pretty horrible around town. My stage 2 clutch can be a pain in the ass sometimes in traffic etc.

When I had a Glanza I bought an Ogura racing clutch. It was a beast but it wasn't as aggressive as you lot make it sound. It cost me around 750quid? Next to now biting point, I stalled atleast 20 times trying to get away from the garage after I it just being installed but the bite was tremendous.

^ totally man, i really don't find it that bad now i have got used to it, i still stall 2 - 3 times a day if i go into the city but on open roads it amazes me, So fast and so much bite. i love it :D i guess we'll only now what i have once i need a new one. :nerv:

You didn't own a White glanza V did you ? lol.

I had an ogura racing clutch which I've just taken out of my ek9 - I loved it, and the sound it made was class :)....... but misses hates it so had to come off. Pedal was fairly hard and bite was quite aggressive (easy to stall) although not as bad as a twin plate.

This all kinda sounds like the clutch it my eg.....it does make a bitta noise and judders a bit at low speeds but i thought that was all down to the aftermarket diff. You guys reckon it could be a twin plate??

@Jack-civic.....I had a carbonetics clutch in my last civic it was stiff enough and tough in traffic but unreal when driving hard, best i ever had!!

Just bumping this back up instead of starting a new thread...

I have a n/a b16 EF that I use on track, it has a Cusco plate LSD in and Exedy Stage1 clutch, which has died after just 10 laps on my last trackday, so I want something that can handle anything I throw at it.

I have been offered a SPEC twin plate at a good price, I realise its overkill for the power I have, but will obviously take anything and everything I give it on track.

Can anyone think of an reason I shouldnt run it?

Car is weekend toy, so driveability not as much of an issue...

if its a weekend toy DO IT.. lol its really not that bad man, if you got out of a standard car and hoped in one with a twin plated clutch, it would be totally different. Once you are used to it however, you will find it easy.

If its a good price mate go for it, at least then you don't have to worry about upgrading it ... ever lol

Yeah its a good price... been reading up on them and the only downside I can see is it snaping clutch cables more often, searching for uprated cables...
