Thinking of turning my car into a long term turbo project, does anyone have a definitive list of what i would need if I was piecing it together bit by bit instead of a kit. Some say it works out cheaper?

Thanks In advance

The essentials

-Turbo
-Manifold
-Downpipe
-Boost pipes +joiners/clamps
-Intercooler
-Oil lines
-Wastegate
-Bigger injectors
-Map sensor(if going above 10-11psi)
-Mapable ecu
-Fuel pump

That much should get you up and running. You may want to upgrade clutch, add additonal breathers to relieve crankcase pressure, 3" catback etc etc.

Not essential but worth considering

-Boost gauge
-Oil pressure gauge
-Oil/water temp gauges
-Turbo filter
-Half sized rad (depending on manifold)
-Colder spark plugs

Added some bits to the list worth thinking of.

Engine: B16A - JUN (Japan) built - cams, springs, retainers
JUN livery valve cover with M's carbon plug cover and ITR oil cap.
ARC intake chamber with M's filter
Fujitsubo FGK manifold
Full 2.5" Cat replacement system
ACT clutch
Aftermarket LSD
adjustable fuel pressure regulator
Socketed p28 ecu with H-tune conversion harness, mapped on crome by Henry Roy @ 197.7 been told there was more to get but the previous owner was it safe and practical as a daily No AC

That's my current engine spec list, will this be ok for boost with the cams?

Thanks very much for the reply :)

I'm not a tuning expert but wouldn't the cams have alot of overlap and not be that great for a turbo setup, great for N.A but unsure on how they will perform on a turbo setup. A set of OEM cams of your choice would most likely serve you better.

thanks for the reply mate, I'm the same not a tuner but was thinking they wouldn't be ideal.

Vtec6000 should be able to spread some light on it for you.

Thanks bud :) look forward to seeing your come together!

Its a learning curve and very exciting. Hopefully has some pics of the Manifold/Downpipe combo soon!

Do you know what model Jun cams? Either way i'd probably take them out and fit some OEM honda cams. If your using a ram horn manifold and mid size turbo go with type r cams otherwise a set of b18c4 cams would be a good choice.

I'm not sure on the model, that's probs the best option, sure I can pick OEM cams up for a decent price.

Thanks

Depending on power goals etc, you might want to look at slowing the car down.
Also if you have any dodgy bushes, these will be highlighted pretty quickly with the rise in power/torque.

thanks mate, yeah a full rebush would be on the cars just for peace of mind :)

does this mean the jun cam, springs and retainers could be up for grabs at somepoint ? :nerv:

quote possibley mate haha,

not sure whether to sell engine complete and go B18c4 though....

I have some turbo bits if you are looking for anything give me a shout Lol

When you do go down the forced induction route, think of these 3 words.

Fast / cheap / reliable

You cant have all 3, pick 2 at the expense of the other. Best bit of advise i read years ago when doing mine.
