Trouble fitting strut brace

Tried the hammer approach ;) (hammering the bolts - carefully). Its almost like the whole thing is being held up by something else underneath... maybe this is due to the lowness of the coilovers + the camber arms (-2.5 at the front). Am I being really dense, lol...

How familiar are you with working on cars mate? Can you install a set of coilovers on your own? If so this should be cake! Only thing i could imagine is some rust holding it all in place :(

do you have both the front wheels off the ground at the same time?

If not the anti roll bar will be acting on the shock you have off of the ground and will try to prevent it from dropping................

hmm... if you were closer, i wouldnt mind meeting up trying to help you with this as you are the first that i know that has had this problem. try blinx's approach though.
its just seem weird how you got the old one off no probs, but the new one not going on.
GL regardless

Reasonably familiar (I try to do what I can myself) although I'm always learning. Never installed coilovers myself however ;).

I will have another look at the weekend and work on the basis that all I need to is undo the bolts on the top of the struts to drop them down :nice:

Jack the car up at the front so both wheels are off the ground. i.e use jack stands on both sides of the car, this should allow the top shock bolts to move enough.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH.... LOL.... that makes sense, no wonder it wouldn't drop. Only had one wheel off the ground ... will try it again tomorrow.

Thanks for the gesture mate, appreciated

Will do, thanks :nice:

Right after much fiddling around... and a combination of jacking stuff up and wiggling things around finally got it fitted.

Thanks everyone for your advice :)

Not managed to really test the brace yet so far but the front end feels loads stiffer... will report more after a spirited drive.

P.S. Took the socks of for a wash... lol

looks fantastic, and the improvements will be much more noticable when tested ;)
easily one of my fav mods :nice:

How did you tighten the 2 bolts that go on the firewall? Would I need a nut at the otherside?

Wow this is a walk down memory lane, having done all sorts including rebuilding a gearbox this seems like childs play now.

My brace came with the two bolts.
