finally got round to sorting out the arch, hardest part is preparing the area that your treating, took hours of work and awkward positions but got there in the end. I waxoild the inside last year and had to get rid of it before painting
should be alot easier if you dont have to do this!
what i was dealing with after the prep was done..
( i hadnt prepd the wheel well yet, only the arch )
What i used (with links to where i got some parts)
Face mask if in a closed space (the epoxy STINKS)
Drill
Flexible extension
FLEXIBLE DRILL SHAFT 36" POWER TOOL FLEXI DRIVE | eBay
Magnetic pick up tool
Wire brushes
2 PC DE-CARB WIRE ROTARY BRUSH SET FLAT TIP & POINTED | eBay
Wire wool
Sandpaper
Light shining on what your doing
Torch
Empty bottle and something to mix epoxy in
Clean cloth or 2
Rust proofing, rust prevention products for automotive: Marine:Industrial:Waxoyl
Rustbuster SP10 De-greaser
Rustbuster Phos Kleen B
Rustbuster Epoxy mastic
For doing this a flexible extension on the drill and magnetic pick up tool is a MUST. Getting into places without the extension is impossible and the magnetic tool picks up so much rust and wire wool especially from the places you cant see.
Be carefull when using the drill and wirebrush between the arch and body, it can 'bite' but you soon get a feel for it! I also removed the seatbelt so it gave me more room to work along with the side strips which are held by 3 clips.
After your happy that all the rust, grease, waxoil, bits of metal, wirewool etc has been removed check it again! and then you need to..
Clean area using the sp10 de-greaser, it says you can use neat or mix with water upto 4:1 ( 4parts water, 1part sp10)
Leave it dry
Clean area again using the Phos Kleen B. DONT dilute this, use it neat and wait for it to dry, says to wipe clean with a little water after its dry due to a chance of salt buildup during the cure. I went over the metal twice with this stuff, once dry its got a real silver shine to it! picture shows what its like after the first coat
Now the epoxy mastic. You mix equal parts of A and B to get your final mix so you dont need much of each for this job. Says upto 15% thinners can be used, i went for about 5%, basically nothing.
WAIT 10 MIN BEFORE USING THE MIXED EPOXY
Paint onto area.
Wait for it to dry. Im leaving overnight as it says will depend on atmosphere and wales has a sh*t atmosphere!
Make a new mix of A and B and apply second coat
Waxoil over the top of the second coat once its dry and you should be set!
Now do the otherside
