Does anybody use these on their daily drive? What sort of life span have they got?

good thread i want to know this 2. iv fitted a good few sets at my work now they are very very soft on the road i dont think they would last very long. i just want a set for doing the 1/4 mile

i dont have those but i have nitto NT01 which are in the same class (R compound) i generally get a year out of them driving about 5000-7000 miles. and that includes spirited driving and burnouts at times.

ha ha thats not to bad then. im lucky to get that out a normal set of tyres. so what sort of tread are they blinx just the same as the 888. and what they like in the wet cause i know what they tyres can be like if you dont keep the heat in them and not to sure the police would be to happy if i was doing burn outs all over town to keep them nice and hot lol

Thanks for the info Blinx, if you can get a year out of similar ones when you have that much power I'm sure I can't go through them any quicker!

Most high performance tires do OK in the wet, but its standing water that they can't handle.

it all depends on your alignment, vehicle weight, roads and driving style, i typically drive slow, i inspect the tires every 2 weeks and do an alignment if i have to. i mainly make sure my toe is set up properly.

i think its a combination of things why i get so much life:
-my car is VERY light 2240lbs.
-i avoid rough roads.
-i always check alignment.
-i dont make long trips.

i do not drive in the rain, i have a few times and i cant exceed 35mph as i will start to lose traction even if going straight!!

This is what i had in mind! Because many people claim that you can travel long distances in heavy rain with out problems. Imagine being worn out:((

not suitable for daily drive in my opinion as they cannot handle standing water, damp track is ok, but hit a puddle on teh road and you`re gonna be in trouble

On our UK roads R888's are unsuitable....

I tried some on my old Golf, & from new to non-road legal they lasted maybe 3000miles of mixed driving...

Grip was excellent in the dry, but pretty poor in the wet, & aquaplaning was a real issue when there was any standing water..

Best to save them for the track IMO

I actually drove in the snow with these tires.
Had no trouble, obviously i was driving slow though. Sticking to the 30 limit.

I use a set of these on the road and track and get about 6k of driving miss daisy around and about 3 trackdays.

Dry grip is incredible and great improvement on braking as well and even in the wet they're okay until you hit standing water and heavy rain.

I actually find them better on rough roads than normal road tyres, might be beacuse they're softer compound and a bit more absorbent of London's well maintained roads.

Got mine 888 yesterday

195-50-15 on BBS 15x7 ET 35. As you can see they are widest you can get in within stock specs. Their price 320e :D
They stick like glue. Their grip is tremendous, couldn't realise a tyre would hold so well. These will not be for everyday use though as there are many compromises you have to do. They are noisy, they need to get warm and they make the car harder.

I use R888 daily on my EK9, absolutely outstanding in the dry and tbh they are still very good in the wet

I was worried about puddles but it's fine, driven home from work over some back roads in really bad rain a few times, as long as you don't drive like a mong they are fine

On the downside they give off a lot of road noise especially above 50mph, also if you are out on a good run and get them properly hot they chuck up loads of stones and crap off the road

Can't see me changing to a different tyre now, really really like them!!!

As for how long they will last? Guess time will tell, i check my alignment frequently, car is all rebushed and i run some very aggressive alignment settings so i will see!!

As for alignment, i run toe out almost 1. I am aware of the pros and cons of toe out but now i think that the drawbacks are more obvious. I mean the steering tends to pull when there is hard road surface and it is very nervous above 120km/h Have you noticed the same?
888 require aggressive alignment to perform right, especially camber.

Seriously I wouldnt be using full semis on the road as daily. Wrong application dude. They dont last long compared to road tyres. And are more slippery in wet compared to road tyres. You should research more on the heat cycle on slick compounds etc, you'll discover things you never knew.

Many experienced racers would either be scratching their heads or 'wtf' or think you just have too much money to burn if you use them as daily.

Thats why manufacturers develop a high performance road tyre with slick compound for daily use. Below are some of the tyres that are road type semi slicks and these will suit your daily drive needs much more than full semi slicks;

Toyo Proxes R1R
Bridgestone RE-01R
Bridgestone RE-11
Bridgestone RE070
Hankook RS2
Yokohama AD07
Yokohama AD08

These tyres above are the road versions of their full semi slick line of their respective manufacturers. The road versions are much quieter, last longer and road friendly. You can simply drive on them daily, take your car to the track and the compound will activate once you get heat into them, and finally drive home with them like a road tyre. With full semis on the daily, the performance fluctuates and finally grip levels will drop even though you have half thread left.

On the public roads, they will handle better, and if you think not... it means your driving too fast on the roads and need to slow the f*** down.

finally there is some sanity in this forum! seems like a waste of a good semi slick using it on public roads. Excellent reccommendation jugbugz :nice:

Semi-slicks are being outlawed for road use by next year in the UK iirc, I have a spare set of wheels with R888's on for track use. And parada spec 2's on my road wheels, which are more than adequate in all conditions.
