My VTi was 172bhp i.e. not standard - I could keep up with an EP3 to roughly 100 - then bye bye EP3 - as soon as I hit 4th gear they were off.

Have you owned an ek4?A ek9 is a better car but the way some people go on about them on here its like the ek4 is **** compared to them.For the money you get vti's for these days you could buy one and b18 it and good suspension set-up for the same price you can get a facelift ek9 for or less maybe.Best bang for buck car out there is the 96 spec dc2,4000 is what mint ones with low miles go for these days

I've owned an EK4 - B18c6 EK4 and a UK DC2 ITR - My mate has an EK9

I agree EK4's are great cars but they are not as good and dont have half the goodies EK9's come with standard.

If you love Civics like I do (and i've had a teg and agree its amazing) you wont see me buying a DC2 - EK9 is my preference and I believe its a better car for me.

I havent owned both but you can see the cars I have owned i believe my opinion is valid - I was in my mates EK9 for 5 mins and was blown away by how it handled on roads i was used to driving on.
 
an EP3 would totally smoke an EK4! I have an EK9 and my best mate has had 2 EK4s and now has an EP3 and he will tell you his standard EP3 would have killed his modded EK4's!

i didn't, i just through my toys out of the pram....:D because you's keep saying my car had to have more mods than it did, why cant you's accept that it was a naturally fast car and beat a few ep3's.

but thats your vti, not mine....every car is different. but i agree with you about the ek9 or dc2, ek9 all the way. i have owned alot of jap import cars and my uncle imported cars to ireland for years,( he was at it that long that when a skyline landed here, everyone would ask what it was :lol:)and in that time he was doing it he got a 5 door sir civic and it was leathel quick, probably quicker than the vti i had. there just is some naturally quick or slow cars. why is it that so hard to believe???

ill admit i haven't owned one but i have been in plenty of them(driven). i know its not the same but its close enough..
yeah, i agree that an ek4 is a great car.
im not comparing them power wise,which is similar by the way, but just the overall feel, feedback from the steering, road holding/handling etc is a step above an ek4 and so it should..the type r sticker isn't on for show
this is my opinion of course and so people will not feel the same..

I will agree with you on the naturally quick/slow car thing... :nice:
 
im probably one of very few people who have had a B16a2 in an EK9, And the difference in weight / rigidity made a massive difference over my B16a2 in my EK4. :nice:
 
Had a quick scan through and seen that a few people have mentioned that DOS' EK could have had more mods, however I don't think anyone's mentioned that the EP3 could've been shagged... Saying this as in my opinion; no VTi (with just a filter and a de-cat) should be ''smoking'' an EP3...
 
EK4`s EK9`s are both quick cars, i would always say the EK9 is better/quicker as that was the intention when being made that it would be an upgrade form the EK4. However with some top mods the ek4 could keep up or even beat a standard ek9 yes, but and ek9 with some mods can produce huge power some cases 200bhp and i dont think you can get more out of an ek4 than a ek9!

If you were giving the option of having an ek4 or an ek9 i think we all would pick the 9 !

Similarly like why BMW make an M3 over a 330ci, an RS4 over a 3.2 A4, a Subaru STI over a WRX and the list goes on and on.
 
has anyone mentioned that the ep3 owner was possibly a gash driver to be beaten by a vti?

or maybe it was a Type S because i beat one in my VTi?

You can do all you want to an EK4 inc putting Type R badges if you really want but it still won't be one....And if you did put in all that money, you could have just bought an EK9 anyway :p

The only time that modding an ek4 to match an ek9 is if you are skint like me and want to do it over a period of time and have the patience of a saint to trawl the web for all the parts at bargain prices. Otherwise its a no brainer which car will be the better one in terms of outright fast driving.

One thing that I *think* the ek4 scores over the 9 is in daily use and having a little bit of luxury. Mind you my GF doesnt agree and wont go fast in my ek4 because she thinks its going to fall apart at high speed because its no where near as refined as her Astra SRi 2.2 (the slowest 2.2 you will ever find!).
