Stock PSi

Hi folks, after going for the rally the engine feels a lot lighter, so today I measured the compression and it was around 197Psi in all 4 cilinders.

So my question is: Does anyone knows for a fact what is the stock compression for the b16b? I've read threads all over the forums, but noone mentions the stock compression.

Besides my car had compression at around 175Psi in another (with much older gauge) compression measure before I ran the last Sunday.

The number itself is not the end all be all as method of testing and gauge used make a difference. More important is how fast it gets to its end number and the consistency across the four cylinders.

If your test was done with an equal amount of cranks for each cylinder i'd say those are sound numbers.

All numbers where obtained with 5 "pumps" of the engine, I tried as well with 6 "pumps" and compression went a bit over 200Psi and stabilizes, in both cases the end numbers were quickly reached.

I have K&N Air Filter and Pipe, ITR DC2 Exhaust mani and a designed exhaust line; if I get it to the dyno my engine should make around 185HP to 195HP, right? Is there a way to know if my engine is with rings problems or not without opening the engine?

Because of money, I'm planning to change valve seals, head gasket and valve cover gasket kit... expecting the little blow of smoke when the vtec kicks-in is just caused for valve seals.

Your comments please!

Enrique

Beyond the compression test, you can do something called a leakdown test, but it requires an air compressor.

Even then, it is entirely possible that your motor is making good numbers but still burning oil as it could be the oil ring that is responsible for this.

This is what happened on my car and it still made almost 180whp on a dynojet.

lol, i made 317whp with 4 bent valves one time  its amazing how these motors can run sometimes despite having unknown (at the time) issues.

My B18C and B16B run 150 psi in all 4 cylinders both engines same guage used.
