Spoon Calipers Clamping On? Help?

Recently fitted a set of Spoon calipers on my EK9 that were bought from a member off this site. Won't mention any names yet...

...Anyway, after driving the car, it seems that the front-right caliper is clamping onto the brake disc. (The left one seems fine). I've had the caliper off and cleaned all four pistons thoroughly. I attatched the caliper back onto the car and still it persists on clamping to the disc after braking.

I've had a few bits of advice: One being it could be that the rubber seals behind the pistons could be in the wrong way round causing them to engage, but not release. I've also been told that the flexi's might need changing to the Spoon flexi's. (as the ones that are on are the standard EK9 flexi's at the minute). However this doesn't sound feasible... My theory is that the caliper is shagged...

If anyone has any ides or could elaborate on any of the theories I've posted, it would be much appreciated, cheers,

Steve :)

I would say its the main seals after swelling , probably needs a new set .

Just incase is your rear left caliper working ok? If it is that should rule out the master cylinder.

Yeah they seem to be fine bud. The front right wheel is heating up under driving obviously due to it binding, but the rest are cool.

Thanks for the info. Do you believe that it could be anything to do with the flexi's? As I don't...

Appreciate the feedback mate, cheers.

Steve. :nice:

No bother ,

The brake pipes will definitely not effect the performance of the caliper unless they were somehow twisted or crimped were the fluid wouldnt be able to flow :nice:

Just as I thought. An engineer mentioned that the pistons or the caliper itself may have become distorted at some point. (The result of a crash maybe). Do you think this is possible? Also, do you know of anywhere where I can get new seals for it?

Thanks for all the help,

Steve. :nice:

spoon sports europe has them.

it could be the brake pipes! what can happen is that the brake pipes brake up inside and as you depress the brake pedal the fluid travles through but cant pass back because the pipe has blocked. try pumping the pedal till it binds and then release the bleed nipple. if the disk then frees off then you know that its not the caliper and that it could be something els before the caliper. hope this helps. let me know your results.

Cheers for the info bud. the Standard calipers were fine. It's only since I've fitted these that they've started to bind.

Maybe the flex pipe has collapsed inside which i've seen on cars before. You cannot see it just change the pipe. The brake fluid is getting suck in the brake houseing not return back.

I'll try it, however they worked fine until I swapped the calipers for the Spoon ones...

did you try and relese the bleed nipple like i said in the last post ? . pump the brake till the disk strats to bind. then release the bleed nipple. if the brake frees off then you k now its summin before the caliper. try it.

Yeah no worries mate, will try it tomorrow and let you know. Cheers for all the help. :nice:

did you fit the 3mm washers that come with the calipers in the right place?
