Spoon Brakes?

has anyone tried to fit spoon twinblock calipers to an ek9 with stock wheels? if so did you need spacers or is their enough clearance without ?

thanks!

I've got them sitting at home waiting to install. It will fit stock wheels because its pretty much the same size as stock calipers but much lighter. It weighs only 5.2kgs. Monoquere weighs 4.7kgs which is more expensive.

They will fit stock wheels as told by Japan.

It will fit 15" stock wheels if the kit doesn't include bigger (than oem) size rotor :nice:

Yup, SPOON rotors are same size as stock size as I have them waiting to install. But don't know if theres another size?

Sorry guys, I made a mistake. here are the correct figures;

Stock EK9/DC2 5.2kgs
Stock AP1 S2000 4.7kgs
Monoquere 2.6kgs
Twin Block 2.4kgs.

I'm not sure of the difference in performance between twin block and monoquere but suprised that Twin block is lighter. Maybe someone can fill in on this.

I've received the kit so will be posting pics up soon with the instructions that come with it.
:D

i once heard about a brand that produce lightweight 15" rims FOR big brakes..!

apparently the rim has an inner bulge to squeeze big brakes...maintaining the grip & weight of 15" wheels with uprated Big Brakes...

anyone heard of these b4..?:thanks:
Sounds just like these. 12.2" brakes sounds pretty good to me, especially at a reasonable 13.2 lbs and only $160 per wheel.

The other wheel that comes to mind w/ caliper clearance is the advan RGII. The TE37 is also designed to have good caliper clearance.

found out from another ek9 owner with spoon brakes that they clear standard wheels!

just trying to find a set for the right price now :D

Ok, finally got the time to take some pics. Takings pics and resizing etc take damn long hey... :(

These are my SPOON Twinblock calipers that only weigh 2.4kgs opposed to Monocoque 2.6kgs and stock 5.2kgs. So already thats a 5kgs saving with bigger braking performance.

I've also taken some pics of the instruction Manual, SPOON Rotors, SPOON front Pads.

These will be installed onto my 9.

Beautiful! Would love some of these, spent too much already, gona have too settle for a disc & pad combo!

jugbugz, have you fitted the spoon calipers yet? what like are they performance/feel wise compared with standard setup?

i still really want a set :(

I'm a bit curious about this... but does spoon calipers uses oem size pads?

spoon twinblock calipers fit behind oem wheels and use oem rotors/pads and utilise the oem ABS system, awesome :D

nope no yet, I plan to do everything at once with Cams, etc.

I think SPOON calipers are the same size as stock type R, but not too sure about pads. Rotors are same size as stock so should be.

yup spoon calipers deffinately accept stock sized pads meaning that the choice of pads for them are endless, same with the rotors too

were is the best place to get spoon brakes from and at a good price?

Let us know how it performs...

I am considering either Spoon or AP racing. Not sure will the AP racing fits in a 16".

i shall do! should be quite good i'd expect, going to be running Endless CCX pads/ap dixcel plain discs/goodridge hoses and motul rbf600 fluid :)
