Anyone have any thoughts on how this sounds? At first I though it was injectors as they are quite tappy, maybe need a ultrasonic bath..but, now I'm not so sure.

There are instances when I think it sounds like a diesel. aha.

On the motorway in 5th at 70 it'll just bog down if i go past 1/4 throttle.

Vtec's fine and is still really rapid up top. Any suggestions? It's the b16b just to be clear

Possibly valve clearances? Kinda sounds similar to mine and I know mine need doing although I don't get the loss in performance...yet

Thanks bud, I'll take a look at the clearances during the week, just need to grab me a feeler gauge. The performance is a little strange. TBH I'll just sort the valve clearances then, give the engine a service and see where I'm at.

Just a thought, can a screwed gearbox cause a lot of transmission resistance? gearboxes aren't really my forte. When I release the clutch there's a definite whirring noise, thinging mainshaft bearings are knackered or something, found some swarf in there when I changed the oil

I guess it could but I doubt to an extent that affects a car like yours is being affected. A good service (sparks, leads, filters, fluids etc) can do wonders for a motor.

Mine was running on 3 cylinders last year after I put a tank of Tesco Momentum in...severe lack in performance etc...gave it a good service (as above) and hey ho...problem was cured :))

I put momentum in for the first time about 5 days ago, the only time i've ever found it near me! They usually only have 97. You've just reminded me I ran my tank VERY low the other week...Think a fuel filter is in order. *FacePalm*

Lol yeah but whilst you're there you may as well go the whole way with the service...you'll be surprised :nice:

I think it sounds like bad LMA's to he honest

Try valve clearances first but its mighty tappy

Hmm, it expensive to get a set? Was hoping I wouldn't have to take the cams out, but I guess it's not too hard a job. Cheers Barry.

Anyway to check if it's them other than replacing them?

As far as i'm aware the B16b uses the same LMA's as the B18C and they arent known for going bad - as they are a better unit than for example the B16a2 so this is the only doubt i have.

Definately try Valve clearances first if this fails to rectify the problem i'm positive it could only be the LMA's

The new LMA's honda have are spring type design compared to the tapered ones that will be in your head - they are like the S2000 & K-Series ones and apparently are better but I have never bought any so unsure of price.

Lost motion assemblies basically provide constant pressure to the rocker arm (to hold it in alignment) that the vtec lobe travels on when you are not in vtec and the rockers are not bridged together with the locking pins the rocker arm that the vtec lobe pushes on basically just sits there.

Without the LMA's the VTEC lobe rocker would be out of alignment and not be able to be locked with the actual valve rockers.

Is the engine not a b16b? they have the better type LMA's as standard. B16a has the old type.

Yeah i'm sure its a b16b - I wasnt sure if the B16b had the same LMA's as B18c

Thanks Vtec6000 !

Heres a link to show the new LMA's vs the old ones - Not sure exactly what the B18C LMA's differ from the ones in the pictures but the spring type LMA's are the new ones.
