I see it nearly every week and never understood the term "rust free" within the honda scene, do people mean rust free arches or a rust free car because if its the latter im sure they simply do not exist. How can a 10+ year old car that's been used in the british climate be completely free of rust?

Finding a EG or EF with just rust free arches inside and out would be a miracle and doubt a EK would be much easier to find

Anyone who says they have a rust free old honda has surely never looked in every bit of box section or under every piece of sealant, imo its just a term used to describe a fairly clean car and not completely free from rust like it suggests

Thoughts?

usually used with regards to arches and the rest of the bodywork. there is no way that the underside of any car that is 10 years old is rust free, unless its never been on the roads.

That term annoys me as well, just like "mint" and "immaculate" it's all bollocks,

Usually the cars are rough and the owners standards are low, or they are just stupid/deluded

To most people rust free means you can't see any rust if your looking at the car whilst standing up

if its been dry stored from day 1 and has 100 miles on it then fair enough but the price would reflect this. Makes me laugh when big dave from bristol tries to sell his high mileage EK4 as rust free

exactly

I put a wanted thread up earlier for a rust free eg or ej2. Usually what im looking for is clean arches and bodywork. :troll:

I saw one rust free EK last year - a pensioners (deceased) automatic ek3 with 17000 miles on the clock, been garaged all its life. Her son wanted 1500 quid for the car, before I decided whether it was worth the cash someone else had bought it. In hindsight I should have bought it for the shell alone, it was impeccable, even all the brackets in the engine bay were without any rust. Also a lot of fresh imports are rust free. Seen a classic Range Rover (they also rust big time) imported from South Africa, it looked like the day it left factory. But I agree, what's mint for one guy is a complete bag of nails to the next.

It's the salt on the UK roads that causes the underside to rust

Japanese imports on the other hand don't see any salt on the roads so the undersides tend to be rust free which is the main reason so many people import older cars

I bought an R32 skyline fresh import, it was 24 years old and you could eat your dinner off the underneath of the car...even the factory control arms and bushes were like new and when fitting coilovers etc all of the bolts came out with ease

^ Thats not true, lots of cars from N Japan are pretty rusty,

you were just lucky that the GTR is super clean under

Some interesting points above.....I'll share a pic of the underside of my 9 I imported last year, was very close to if not completely rust free, not bad for a 16yr old motor, obviously didn't come from the North of Japan
Now Dinitrol sealed so doesn't look like this anymore :nice:

I have heard of this too, I should have said that most Japanese imported cars are rust free. I'm sure the big companies like Torque-GT etc would only source cars from the non rusty areas

I have owned 5 Japanese imports and they have all been rust free

To me it just means 'no rot'. Surface rust on suspension components is totally irrelevant outside concours circles.
