reversed b16 powered mk2 escort

noise is easy made with a straight through exhaust and itb's! :D

Thought he was, sounded good and went well with the fiat, dont really see the advantage of the b16 considering the work thats involved, but obviously works very well and as a technical exersise very impressive. Now i have watched the video i personaly hate the exhaust sound, far too loud and buzzy for my liking, does sound lovely from the front mind.

the advantage of the b16 over the fiat is purely cost! i believe there was alot of machining involved in the fiat engine to get reliable power.

its not as much work as people think, don't get me wrong its no walk in the park. But its very doable! what keith said to me was, if you had a highly tuned b series engine 1000 euro (ROUGHLY!! the varience is due to have a dry sump system or not) would have your engine spinning the other way

Thats not bad at all then, i have a b16 in the rally civic, if i wasnt selling my group 4 mk2 escort it would have been cool to have a b16 in that too!

Nah not me, but a company I know that prepares rally-cars has built a few S2000 Escorts to sell and I just wondered if there would be a kit available as they might like to try a B16b conversion to sell on.

my mate was on about this months ago when he was chatting to keith thought it was just a idea, great to see it for real,
should be very competitive ,thanks for sharing

pistons are rotated in the block 180 degree's, custom cams, dry sump the engine, never asked about the water pump... also different tesnsior set up is required for the timing belt.

and its not as expensive as you might think! the most expensive part is the dry sump system.

I get the tensioner, cams and dry sump, but why rotate the pistons in the block? It will still be breathing in through the same ports will it not? Is this something to do with the wrist pin being slightly offset to one side? So it would be a custom piston job rather than just simply spinning them in the bore?

I so badly want a B series powered Mk1 MX5. Looks like I could actually make one after all!

i'm no expert when it comes to engines so excuse me if this does not sound correct, i may have picked it up incorrectly! but it has something to do with trust pressure on the cylinder wall and because the rotation on the engine has to be swapped?

again, all the info i've given is just from brief chats with keith when decision an engine he has worked on for a project i am completing!

mk1 mx5 with a b16b....? DO IT!! :D

Yup sounds in line with what I was thinking, you'd want to spin the pistons but then the valve reliefs and dome would be on the wrong side of the combustion chamber, a custom piston job fo sho.

Emailed Keith. My B16B is in bits. I'm bored with the Civic. I want that MX5. :nerv:

I can remember bringing up the MX5 thing with a B series in a while back purely out of curiosity. Reason being the MX5 has sublime handling but the Mazda engines without spending massive money are just cack. A B18'd, K20'd MX5 would be a seriously fun and quick car.

That mk.2 Escort though is absolutely superb, I can think of few better donor cars for the B series engine than a raced up mk.2 Escort.

I'm wondering though with the mk.2 Escort, has anyone ever put an S2000 lump in one ala AE86 Toyota?

Sounds mint and it shifts alright :O madness :)
